PROCRASTINATION: DELAY AT YOUR OWN PERIL

Source

Life can come at you so fast and you would start thinking immediately why I kept avoiding these tasks or why I kept on lingering on decisions?
As a child, I grew up with a saying that my dad always sang to the ears of me and my siblings, "E me ngwagwa, e me lo'dachi" which meant "If you work fast and early, you'll avoid unexpected problems." He's always the type that likes to get things done as early as possible, regardless of the amount of time he had left to do such work, and by so doing he tried to imbibe in us such attitude.

DELAY CAN BE DENIAL

I remembered vividly when my neighbour was to apply for his Post-Utme examination into the university. If I could recall so well we both knew the day the registration was firstly made open and available for everyone who wanted to apply for the exam. Well he didn't get to register that day but said he'll absolutely do so the next day, but he didn't and he kept on postponing such an important responsibility. Till the final day of registration, he went on to register but he was too late to do so already. He cried his eye balls out. The impact of this was that he had to wait an extra year to write another UTME examination before even thinking of registering for the university's Post-Utme examination.
I've had my own experiences, even though I never suffered the consequences but time almost got caught up with me. Well I never knew I was to register for my final year research project, but my friend informed me about it. I still had a little bit of time left but I kept lingering on cowardly decisions that made me totally forgot I had a project to register for. I was in the lecture room this very day, and the moment I saw this friend of mine, I immediately remembered I hadn't registered for my project. To my greatest surprise, the registration was ending that day, but I successfully registered in time. I learnt a great lesson that day.
At that moment, I realised that PROCRASTINATION IS AN ENEMY OF TIME AND RESPONSIBILITY. Not only did I not waste valuable time, I risked missing an important deadline but also neglecting my duty as a student.

When one procrastinates, one is definitely failing to align and connect one's actions with his or her goals which can ultimately crumble your sense of agency and make time feel like it's plunging away. Procrastination can damage relationships, both professional and personal, make you lose out on great opportunities, and even lead to a mental and psychological burnout in the long run depending on what was at stake.
However, procrastination definitely has it causes, but one can mitigate its impact. And by ensuring this, with purposeful effort, you just need to even up your actions with your responsibilities and allow time be your ally, not your adversary.
