My Last Day at Work

There are really some kinds of people you meet whom you easily get attached to. It’s because these kinds of people are supportive, friendly, and easy to get along with. I’m sure you’ve met people like that too.
In my very short stay in this company, I quickly became comfortable with my colleagues. Ninety percent of them are friendly and supportive, they really have great personalities, to put it simply.
I was hired by this company just last August 12 of this year. It hasn’t been that long yet, but despite the short time, I’ve already grown close to them.
This is really the kind of team I’ve always dreamed of working with, those who have strong initiative and are very supportive. It’s just that my stay in the company was short because of a family matter.
I volunteered to take care of my mom while we wait for her operation schedule. She has a 6.7 cm kidney stone in her right kidney. Since she’s alone in Leyte and doesn’t want us to hire someone to stay with her, because she doesn’t like having anyone in the house except family members, I volunteered to do it myself. I also decided to volunteer because the company I’m connected with is already going bankrupt, and there have been instance where our salaries were not given in full, only 50% was released, and the other 50% was delayed.
I felt a bit hurt because I really liked the team. Life really isn’t perfect, right? My previous employer was a rich company and I was earning a high salary, but I didn’t like my colleagues, I was earning well, but I wasn’t happy. But here, I’m happy with my team, yet the company is heading toward bankruptcy.
Yesterday, since it was my last day, they took the initiative to buy pizza. We were supposed to have dinner out, but since we’re trying to save money right now to help our fellow Filipinos affected by the typhoon, we just had pizza delivered instead. This team really loves pizza. Although I’m not that fond of it, everyone else likes it, so we went with pizza, and it was really delicious.
Hopefully someday, when I decide to work again, I’ll meet people like them. But for now, I’ll focus my time on my mom, she’s already getting old.
