Let Me Take You on a Little Tour of Bontoc, Hindang Diving Board

Happy Thursday Hivers!

One of the attractions that visitors from other towns often come to see in our barangay is the diving board. I was still very young when it was already there, and up until now, it’s still standing strong.

I actually mentioned this diving board in my previous blog, but I haven’t properly given you a tour yet. So this time, let me take you to the Bontoc, Hindand Diving Board.

The diving board is approximately a 10-minute walk from our house. Even if you’re just at home, you can already see it clearly from there.

When I was still a child, every time we celebrated the St. Peter fiesta, we would always come here because there was a particular house nearby that hosted a feast. There would be so many people swimming here during that time, it was always lively and full of energy.

Even when there’s no occasion, this diving board is almost always crowded because many people travel here just to enjoy diving. Most of the visitors are teenagers.

What’s surprising is that there’s no lifeguard assigned to manage the area. And so far, by God’s grace, there haven’t been any drowning incidents. People in our place, even young children, grow up knowing how to swim.

Back then, we could use the diving board for free. There was no gate, and no rules were posted. Anyone could simply come and enjoy the place.

But now, they charge a ₱10.00 entrance fee for maintenance. A gate has been installed, and outside it, you’ll find important rules that visitors must follow to ensure everyone’s safety.

As soon as you enter the gate, you’ll immediately see the beautiful Himokilan Island. It’s truly one of the islands that adds charm and breathtaking scenery to our place.

Its shape is incredibly stunning, especially when it stands proudly against the sky and sea.

There are also statues of various saints placed around the area. Did you know that the view from the diving board is especially beautiful during both sunrise and sunset?

At sunrise, the sun rises majestically from behind the Bontoc Mountain, casting a golden glow. And at sunset, Himokilan Island looks absolutely stunning, there’s nothing that can block the view, making it a perfect moment to just pause and admire the scenery.

This is the view you’ll see if you face the mountains, and that’s Bontoc Mountain right there. It looks even more beautiful when the trees are lush and green. Unfortunately, at that time, a storm had just passed, and some of the trees had been down, so it wasn’t as vibrant as usual.

This is the diving board in our place that visitors keep coming back to. It’s especially beautiful when there aren’t too many people around and the weather is perfect. Afternoons are the best, you can witness the calm sea, a breathtaking sunset, and the stunning Himokilan Island. That's the beauty of Bontoc, Hindang Diving Board.

I hope you enjoyed our little tour.
