The Feed
She scrolled through her Insta-feed, bored, exhausted and brain dead. Ten seconds ago, while trying to get a small cup in the upper shelf of the cupboard, she had accidentally pushed the large dough mixer that had been on top of the cupboard so that it fell down and hit her on the head.
And now she was dead.
She still could watch the feed though. Didn’t take many neurons to do that. Good thing that it scrolled all by itself, because she couldn’t move her hand.
The feed had some funny stuff in it. There was a dog that didn’t dare to try to descend a staircase, a man who tried to shoot through a steel plate with a large rifle, a woman who pranked her mother by throwing ice water on her head. But after a while she noticed the same man in the background of every snap – he looked apologetic at her.
When he was there for the fifth time she yelled at him, “who are you? Go away.”
“I can’t,” he said. “I’m working here. I’m the Insta Man.”
“The what?”
“The Insta Man… the Feed Guy. I feed. I have to live, you know. It’s just a job. I don’t enjoy brain rot or anything. I only do this to feed. Someone else would do it if I didn’t”
She scrolled and the next snap was strange. The Insta Man wasn’t there and her body was slightly different – bigger breasts, bigger bum and bigger lips. She was standing in front of a large portal shaped like a cheap fantasy version of a human skull. There was a line of other gorgeous people, so she followed them into the portal. Inside there was a nice clean reception hall. She was scanned by what looked like a hip bone and then she was matched with someone named Hillary Tyson. She really longed for Hillary's rotten brain – she could just feel it in her stomach. A perfect job then.
She asked one of her coworkers about the place, but he knew nothing. Then she heard a familiar voice. It was the Insta Man. “Welcome to the Feed. Are you hungry?” He grabbed her a little too roughly by the arm. “I know you are, but before you get to the trough, you will have to come with me to the temple and pledge allegiance to our masters.
That was a nasty one...
