Smart home
The purple plush sofa was placed in the middle of the room. He called it their command centre. She called it the cosy corner, even though the four corners of the room were equally distant from the sofa, and the living room containing the sofa was situated in the middle of the house.
From the sofa they could control everything in their home. A small tablet computer was all they needed to make the dishwasher start, dim the lights, move the blinds up and down or project a film onto the canvas that was fastened to the bookshelf with some old rope. A lever beside the sofa could, if you pulled it, make the veranda tip so everyone on it would fall into the potato field below. There was also a large electric motor that could pull their car all the way into the living room. But what they were most proud of was the red button that was connected to a large charge of TNT in the basement. That way they could blow up the whole house if necessary.
It was the only smart home in the neighbourhood.
This one is for @steevc :)
LOL! Doesn't seem that smart to me. I actually have less gadgets than a lot of people. I looked into some early smart home stuff, but it was not so great. It's more to go wrong.

I am also rather reluctant to buy new things - and at same time probably the one who has most complicated set of tech systems in the family. My girls laugh at me for not buying things when I actually need it.
I remember the posts about smart homes you made long time ago - but for this one I also thought about the Cragside house.
I guess the couple in the text have a slight prepper paranoia :)
