Everything was better in ancient times
Back then, back in the early times, when humans were travelling the plains and forests of West Africa, one day a bloke called Sto, a hunter-gatherer and flautist, found himself chased by a giant, female lion. He was trying to crawl up a tree when the lion caught him and ate him.
Some days later Boe, a hunter-gatherer and not yet flautist, found the flute beneath the tree. He knew what it was, because Sto had been his friend (not many people were around back then) so he took the flute and tried to make a sound. Unfortunately Boe was not really a musical person and he didn’t have particularity good dexterity. What he had was a foul temper, so he went home with the flute and beat up his wife.
The other humans finally had enough of Boe and killed him and ate him, so the anger should not spread into the world and, for example, get into the head of a giant, female lion. In that way they kept it within the tribe so they knew where it was.
The bone flute was preserved, and quite a few people learned to play it, which – over some millennia – led to the first civilisations. The anger was also preserved, not by eating the angry, but simply by having wars, domestic quarrels and inventing scripture. In the end Facebook was invented.
We were definitely better off back in prehistoric times.
Don't they say life in ancient times could be brutal and short? Now we can have all we need and people are still unhappy. There is such a thing as enough. Flutes are cool too.

Yes, people laugh at me when I say that they should be happy that they don't live in the iron age. But I often think myself lucky in that regard.
We can live more simply, but I'm not giving up modern medicine, hygiene and the internet.
Exactly. It is just machines. That a lot of them are crap, and often dangerous or futile, doesn't change that we are better of with them than without.
