Why Web3 > Web2. My personal story
Medium suspended my account.
It happened yesterday night, a few hours after I posted a guide about how to sign up and how hive blockchain works.
I still do not know why I was suspended (more on that and my estimation at the end of this post)
It is the first time that I have been suspended (I don't count twitter/X, because I was experimenting) in any Web2 application (or anywhere at all). I kind of feel ashamed and I was hesitant about writing about this.
However, it is a brilliant opportunity to show the big differences between any Web2 platform versus Web3.
Ownership
In Web2, your account and content is owned by the platform. The platform is the one that has power over your own content. They can remove your content or they can ban you whenever they deem so. On the contrary, in web3 - you own your data and anything about your account. You will always be able to publish your content and own your data (which is public for ever on the blockchain)
Transparency
In Web2, it is not possible to have all the information that the platform is not willing to share. For example, in Medium, you cannot see who has read your post, and how your rewards were earned. In Web3 social platforms, everything is saved in the blockchain and you can retrieve all information you need.
Privacy
In Web2 platforms, you do not know how your information is used and cannot control it. In some cases you may need to perform a full KYC in order to use their services. For instance in Medium, a user needs to disclose all their personal information (including tax info). In Web3 platforms, you provide all the information you want.
Platforms
Web2 should integrate with other platforms to offer you to offer you other services i.e. wallet services, while web3 include the wallet in the app itself. For instance in hive, your wallet address is your username.
These are some of the most important differences that you need to keep in mind before you choose a platform to invest your time.

Let's go back to Medium for a short while. What does it mean to get suspended and is there a way to fix this?
I wrote my last post yesterday. It was a cross-post with my post in inleo, because I received a lot of questions about hive (especially when posting my monthly income reports).
Then I spent sometime reading a few posts and commenting.
I shut down my laptop late at night and in the morning, a friend of mine sent me a message saying that they could not see my account.
When I tried to log in, I saw this message:
When I see from another browser, I see that my account may be under investigation
I sent a message to appeal, but till now (more than 12 hours after), I have received no reply.
What I cannot do:
- I cannot post a post/comment
- I cannot see my past earnings
- I do not know if I will get my last month's earnings (Medium pays once a month)
- I can access my stories, but noone else can see them
- I cannot have any information about what rule I violated
- There was no warning
- There is no way of receiving a reply.
I may lose my account, and I invested serious time over the past months to grow it.
Why this may have happened?
- They did not like my post about hive
- Someone reported me
- I write too fast (really, I know touch-typing) so maybe it raised a flag of me being a bot?
Thanks so much for visiting and supporting!
As always, I will value your feedback on the above. Did I leave out anything?

Nothing to be "ashamed" of. These centralized entities hold all the cards and do as they please. I've been banned from FB several times without notice only to get my account back within 48 hours. They might reinstate your account after a few checks. In case they don't harness the experience and knowledge you've gathered and move forward. No need wasting your precious energy and time on the "past".
Thank you! When I wrote this last night, I did not know that there were far too many accounts suspended - perhaps caught under some unknown filter. There was no warning, and many of them are original writers.
Thank you for commenting!

In as much as Web3 is the future of the web, i still believe Web2 will still be around for some times
I agree!
how sad, given the effort and time you put... I hope that you will get back your account and i am quite intested to see what the "reason" will be, if they tell you ofc
Too many people were suspended on the 4th of March, still not sure why.

Hope you are doing great!
@katerinaramm, sorry!
You are out of hugs for today.
You can call the HUG bot a maximum of 3 per day.
The current call limits are:
Wow
It’s funny how they took your post about Hive as a crime
Let’s see if they can unban the account
That’s why Web3 will always be different and better from Web2
Yes!

Thanks for sharing this. There is no reason to feel ashamed. I know of two respected and trusted writers who have had their accounts suspended in the last month. I hope they reimburse you for lost earnings.
I have linked to this story in my Learning Pages Newsletter, which has just been published on Medium.
Thank you!
I am so sure you will get your account back. Those people are just bitter about what they should not be bothered about
Thank you so much, lets see what happens
I think 100 percent that your account went into spam filter this happened to me twice in 2023 and both times my account was reinstated. Other than that I checked you monetized your account from Greece and use Greece IP address to use medium plus your stripe is connected from Greece as well meaning you are not from Asia like Pakistan/India this automatically protects you from so much trouble. Now my account got banned too but like wise almost every one I know from my country has been ban hammered so that is the reason why I feel your issue will be resolved 100 percent also you will get your payment for the month of February 2024 coach on medium.
It will be interesting to see what happens. And when :)
Times have changed now so we have to change if we want to be successful in this market then we have to work on the platforms that are there and we have to bring them to other people as well.
I came from Medium too and I moved here because of the active readership. I bailed out after writing for them for almost 2 years, only to get my partnership declined. It broke my spirits but I'm glad to have found Hive.
With Web2, they have full ownership of your entry. On hive, of course there are still rules unique to each community, but the freedom of speech is stronger. I've given up writing on Web2 entirely, unless they're able to find ways to give more power to the community, than just their corporate gains.
If you think about it, an article promoting writing for Hive is not really good for Medium's business model. You're funneling their paid subscribers to Hive. If you think about it, it takes a Medium subscription to be able to write on Medium and get seen by high quality readers and it also takes money for readers to enjoy great articles from the best authors. Sounds like business to me.
Sometimes Web2 just isn't worth the trouble!
I do hope you get your account reinstated though, so all the effort you put in doesn't come to nought.
