RapidRAW - The New, Open Source and FREE Lightroom alternative

Today I decided to download and give a quick try using a brand new FREE program about image editing.
It is called RapidRAW, it has become very well known already and it is free, open source - resembling to light room, so if you have used light room it will definitely look familiar to you.

I have used the free option of lightroom in my mobile, but cannot use lightroom on desctop unless I pay, so I decided to try out my editing skills using this application.

In my opinion, it may not be enough (for now at least, as it is still developing) for professional photographers who have already used lightroom for a long time and have specific way of working, editing, or creating/using presets. But this may be a perfect option for a beginner photographer who starts at a low budget and wants to train by doing and by not paying a kidney every month.

This is a very thorough video that I recommend you check it out if you plan to download the app

This is the website of the program: https://github.com/CyberTimon/RapidRAW?tab=readme-ov-file

The set up was very easy and as soon as it is finished you are asked to select a folder

image.png

The good thing is that you can also edit JPEG, not only RAW :)

image.png

When you choose a photo in a folder you can rate it, or copy its settings (i.e. if you have already edited another photo from a similar series)

If you are new in editing, you can try auto-adjustments and take it from there

Auto Adjusted - and after playing with the colors a little bit, I wanted the eyes to pop.
Maybe I did not choose the right image

Final words
I have seen that the person who created this is an 18 year old who just took a few days (I think 2 weeks) to make it! I think that this is really great and I hope to see more from our youngsters.
Even more important; He cares.
He commented in the video, and of course I did not miss the opportunity to talk about hive, lets hope that he sees it and comes to join us!

Bonus:

Our little new baby is doing just fine, drinking loads of milk every few hours and I am looking forward to take it for a professional photoshoot soon!

Let me know what you think, your opinion is very important.
There are some flaws with masking, it does not select automatically, you are supposed to select the area - but other features I tried work smoothly

Hi Kat, this is the first time I've heard of RapidRAW. From what I understand, it's similar to Lightroom, and I have to tell this to my wife, who also uses Lightroom. This software seems like a good alternative for those who want to start editing photos without spending a fortune on software. Well done, great discovery, and thanks for showing it to us. !STRIDE
