Pepper goes to vet

I was a bit sad during the weekend...
Pepper (you sure know her from previous photos), came late Friday night, looking like she was so much in pain...

She would not eat, would not drink, just cry...
I did my best but after a while she wanted to leave the house.

We do not have vets during nights or during weekends, so I had to wait ...
The next day I was searching for her almost until noon. I could not find her. Finally, she came late afternoon, looking a bit better. She still could not eat or drink, just a little bit. But she slept on my bed, all night long.

Next morning she left ... And then thankfully she came home again Monday during the time when VET was open!

We went right away, to see what was going on.
She had not eaten, but at least she had drank water..

The vet examined her, I was holding her in my hands most of the time and she felt so light... she was 3.8 kilos only (3 days without food...)

The doctor said it is a disease of gum and teeth, which causes cats to be very much in pain ... there is no real treatment to cure this for ever, but there are somethings that can be done to help the cats feel better.

We need to go and make a new appointment so that Pepper is put asleep and her teeth are being cleaned. Maybe they will need to get out some of her teeth if they have gone bad :(

We put Pepper in the box you see, just to make 2 injections (antibiotics and one for removing the pain) .. I felt so bad, but it was the best we could do.

Now she needs to eat soft food for quite some time, because she cannot chew very well..

Pepper is one of the sweetest cats I have ever known in my life.
She has no attitude, she is always sweet and kind.

She has never harmed or hunted another cat or another soul. She is always near people and wants to be touched.

I feel so bad that this had to happen to her, but at least she has us to take care of her.. I cant imagine how difficult it must be for stray cats if they get ill like that and cannot eat...

This disease is called gum-stomatitis ... and as I read it can affect cats from 10 months to 15 years.. the doctors have not found any reason that this happens...

Stay aware of signs that your cat cannot eat or even drink water.. if you see red around their lips and they cry like trying to chew but seem to be in pain, with head down....

Try to take them to the vet.
