Whenever we talk about financial freedom, people usually say a very high value for “happiness”, but there is one extremely important detail in this context: our cost of living. Each of us has a different reality, and this often impacts all of our decisions and routines. If there is one thing that can harm our health, it is having a deficit at the end of the month. Well, let's talk a little about the cost of living here in Brazil. Depending on where you live, some products/services can be very cheap or very expensive, depending on the region. The southern region where I live is an area with large agricultural production, so the cost of food ends up not being so high for basic foods. However, some things have risen drastically in recent months. For example, the coffee I used to drink at the beginning of the year cost around 30 BRL for 500 grams (USD 5.28), but the price is currently around 55 BRL (USD 9.68), almost double the value. Not to mention eggs, which went from an average of BRL 5 (USD 0.88) to an average of 11 BRL (USD 1.94), which already raises the cost of living. Fuel costs an average of 6 BRL (USD 1.06) per liter. The Brazilian minimum wage is currently 1,509 BRL (USD 265.53). As I mentioned earlier, we have. There are states where the cost of living is rising a lot. Here in my region, you can survive and have a minimum of leisure time with 2 to 3 minimum wages.

Of course, we are talking about an estimated value for one person. The family's income should be added up and divided to get this metric. I believe that the main costs are transportation and food. In terms of sanitation and energy, they are stable here and do not weigh so much on the budget, maintaining a good quality of service. Unfortunately, the biggest problem we face here in Brazil is the high taxes that have a huge impact on people's quality of life. Not to mention that housing here is increasingly difficult for people to buy their dream home, with inflation rising (our base interest rate is already at 14.25% and is expected to continue rising).

So, today we can say that where I live I can still have a certain quality of life, along with a certain level of security. I think that if I were to move to another city at the moment, things would probably be worse, at least at the beginning. Of course, many factors lead to this calculation, but I think that here we have good basic sanitation, basic health care, and safety when walking on the streets, which are the main factors that make me want to stay here. Unfortunately, I have heard reports from several friends I have in other countries who complain that, in addition to having a high cost of living, they also suffer from a lack of basic infrastructure, where there are often power outages or water shortages. I think that this is something that seriously affects people's lives. Have you ever thought about a refrigerator without power in the middle of summer?

I think that what we could do to improve the quality of life here in Brazil and lower our costs would be more efficient management combined with tax reductions... who knows, maybe one day we will be able to see this in action...

Sempre quando conversamos sobre liberdade financeira as pessoas geralmente dizem um valor bem alto para a “felicidade”, mas tem um detalhe que é extremamente importante nesse contexto o nosso custo de vida, cada um de nós tem uma realidade diferente e isso muitas vezes impacta todas as nossas decisões e rotinas, se tem uma coisa que pode nos fazer mal a saúde é ter um déficit no final do mês.

Bom vamos lá comentar um pouquinho sobre como o custo de vida, aqui no Brasil dependendo de onde você mora, alguns produtos/serviços podem ser muito baratos ou muito caro, dependendo da região, na região sul onde eu moro é uma área com grande produção agrícola, então o custo alimentar acaba não sendo tão elevado nos alimentos básicos, porém algumas coisas subiram drasticamente nos últimos meses, o café que eu consumia por exemplo, no início do ano custava em torno de 30 BRL a 500 gr ($5,28 USD) porém o preço no momento está em torno de 55 BRL ($ 9,68 USD) quase o dobro do valor, sem contar o ovo que a dúzia saiu de uma média R$ 5 BRL ($ 0,88 USD) para em média 11 BRL ($ 1,94 USD), isso já eleva o custo de vida, o combustível custa em media de 6 BRL ( $1,06 USD) o litro, o salário mínimo brasileiro atualmente é 1.509 BRL ( $265,53 USD), como mencionei anteriormente temos estados que o custo de vida sobe muito, aqui na minha região com 2 a 3 salários mínimos você consegue sobreviver e ter o mínimo de lazer.

Claro isso estamos falando em um valor estimado para uma pessoa, o valor familiar deveria de ser somado e dividido para ter essa métrica, acredito que o principal é transporte e alimentos, em questão de saneamento e energia, por aqui encontra-se estável e não pesa tanto no orçamento, mantendo uma boa qualidade no serviço prestado, mas infelizmente o problema maior que enfrentamos aqui no Brasil são os altos valores de impostos isso impacta demais na qualidade de vida das pessoas, sem contar que a moradia por aqui está cada vez mais difícil de uma pessoa adquirir a tão sonhada casa própria, com a inflação subindo ( nossa taxa básica de juros já está em 14,25% e com previsão de continuar a subir).

Então assim, hoje podemos dizer que onde moro ainda consigo ter uma certa qualidade de vida, junto com uma certa segurança, penso que provavelmente se no atual momento fosse me mudar para outra cidade as coisas pelo menos no inicio seriam piores, claro são muitos fatores que levam a fazer esse cálculo, mas penso que principalmente por aqui ter um bom saneamento básico, atenção a saúde básica, além de ter uma segurança ao andar na rua são os fatores primordiais para eu querer ficar por aqui, infelizmente já ouvi relatos de vários amigos que tenho em outros países que reclamam de além de ter um custo de vida alto, também sofrem com a falta de infraestrutura básica, onde por muitas vezes tem queda de energia ou falta de agua, penso que isso é algo que prejudica demais a vida das pessoas, já pensou por exemplo uma geladeira sem energia em pleno verão?

Acho que o que poderíamos ter para melhorar a qualidade de vida aqui no brasil e baixar nosso custo era uma gestão mais eficiente combinada com a redução de impostos... quem sabe um dia poderemos ver isso em ação...
