[Let's Babble] Getting back into Star Wars: the Old Republic

Whilst awaiting the arrival of various game releases such as the Diablo 4's Season One this weekend, Baldur's Gate 3 in a fortnight, and Starfield in a month, I decided to jump back into Star Wars: the Old Republic and... not finish the last story I need to in order to become a Legendary Player.

I decided to make a Bounty Hunter instead.

All I need is to finish the Republic Trooper story and I, someone who has played since beta before launch, will at last become a Legendary Player. But I just can't get into the dang story. It was a slog for me to finish most of the Republic-side stories but the Trooper... Chapter One bores me to tears and I just can't finish it.

Anyway. So I made a new Bounty Hunter! This will be my third Bounty Hunter, haha, but I was inspired to play from the very beginning due to recently having a Star Wars binge with my partner. We watched all the movies, all the TV series, and during The Mandalorian I was just... "ARGH! I NEED TO PLAY A BOUNTY HUNTER IN SWTOR!!!!"

I was hoping to finish my character in time for Season One of Diablo 4 this weekend, but alas, after 5 days of playing I'm only up to Chapter Two and hunting a pirate with a Jawa on Hoth.

I was hoping to finish the main class story, finish the next expansions, and check out the new content which will inevitably make me weep for the glorious past of SWTOR, but of course that was too ambitious. But that's alright. I'll do it all at some point; I'm planning on staying subscribed for complimentary cartel coins anyway so there's plenty of time to get this done... and hey, maybe I'll finally force myself to do that damned Republic Trooper storyline (unlikely).

At the moment, the Nar Shaddaa Night Life event is happening which means there are actually people fooling around in that area, gambling, trying to get cool things.

Which was very lucky for me...

Because, my poor Bounty Hunter got "stuck" on a fence and couldn't get out. I couldn't use the /stuck command, I couldn't merely quick travel, go to my stronghold, anything. I tried to log off and back on and I would return to that spot, stuck on a fence.

image.png

Stuck on a fence, I finally asked /general chat for help and I was surprised to find that not a single person lol'd or made fun of my predicament. In fact, people offered suggestions, albeit ones I had already tried, and then one person offered to group up with me so she could try and get me out.

We dueled. I remained stuck.

She logged over to another character, a sorcerer, and used the ability Force Pull to get me out. It worked! Huzzah!

I was just amazed that people were helpful. All the toxic gamers must have left and gone back to World of Warcraft, HAHA.

Anyway, despite my ambitious hopes of actually finishing the main quest-line of this game within a mere week, I've been enjoying my time returning to Star Wars: the Old Republic.

When I get to the new non-immersive content that can be activated with a mere click of a purple button to get to and fro with no need for your spaceship and old companions having no meaningful dialogue, I'll probably change my tune, but I'm still interested in seeing what the new content holds.

Guess I'll check it out whenever I finally get there. It's almost Season One of Diablo time!!!! 😁

Until next time! 🎮🚀

Honestly, I'm in the exact same boat. Trooper is the only story I haven't finished!

The last xpac I played was when you can chose to either go back to the pub side, or imp after the events Knights!

Haha, that's the same as me! That was the last time I played, too. xD

My two main characters: my Sith Inquisitor returned to the Dark Council, and my Imperial Agent became a real double-agent for the Republic... and then I stopped playing.

The Trooper is ugggggggggghhhhhhh. I think that just perhaps I can live without being a Legendary Player, haha. 😣

My mains were a JK, and an IA!

My IA however is a true patriot ( to the Empire, not the sith) so made choices that were for the betterment of the Empire, some of which still haunts him ( talking about CH1, and capturing Jadus.

It was kinda fun to play that way with my Agent, as it meant not always doing what he was told to do. At the end, of the main story he decided to go rogue.

I have two Agents, because I love their story. xD One of them is completely for the Empire! Whereas the other one I roleplayed as always wanting to defect... Chapter Two was a dream come true, until that Republic group used and betrayed her, but she still had hopes of one day defecting... now she struggles to be a double-agent as everything she does annoys Theron, who doesn't know she's just doing what the Republic is telling her to do.

In Chapter two my agent was having second thoughts, thinking about how it would be like to work for the Pubs, but after the whole brainwashing bit, he came to realize that they aren't any better than the Sith.

Can you progress in this game without buying anything it offers to sell online?

Yes. It's free-to-play but I wouldn't call it pay-to-win. The things that can be bought include xp, mounts, customisable armour and weapons (with no stats on them), but you can also obtain that stuff for free as you play, or buy buying them off the auction house.

The main advantage of subscribing includes access to the expansions and new content. Free players access the base game only, as far as I'm aware.

Well it's that Star Wars that's an MMO xD I wouldn't say it's like WoW. The only thing it really has in common is the genre.

Well SWTOR is the perfect game for playing as a single player experience. They did it really well merging single player with MMO! :)

Most dungeons have a story-mode so you can do it with you, your companion, and a droid. There are a couple of raids where in-game characters come and help in place of a proper raid-group. Of course you can do it properly with other people too, but it's there for single-player people.

You'll get several companions, and change them to tank, healer, dps, whatever. I like to run mine as a healer while I annihilate everything. xD

Hope you enjoy the game!

I see something like toram online you can bring companion or single player party mode.
But toram online after you reach level 180 no choice but to find real people to play with.

I'm glad I don't have to find people to play this game 🎮 because most of the time is luck 🤞 haha or actively searching. I'm playing it right now level 5 now haha just started cool story too.
