Virtual Reality - Effects and Reality
I learned about Virtual Reality few years ago when it became available in malls. In one of our family hangout, during December, we visited the Lekki mall and we were asked to pick games and other fun activities. My sister chose VR, I decided to wait and see how it went before I agree to it. Her screams, fights struggles made me quickly opt for a different game because it didn't look pleasant to me.
Yes VR is a social activity that tries to emulate or rather stimulate real life experiences which makes us feel we are actually living the life, but in reality, we are not and it all comes to an end when the timer stops. Although VR started as just an entertainment, it is now applied in various studies such as medical, educational and science.
Today VR has been applied in medical research and discovery. Helping scientific to make findings about illnesses and possible medical solutions.
In some lands, VR has been included into educational services where self learning takes place and students can see themselves living the life of the person their learning about, taking them back to the 70s, 80s, and 90s or to the future where Ai would have taken the world and humans would end up doing nothing because there will be robots handling all the chores.
VR makes imagination of anything possible and doesn't stop there, it makes you feel it through the stimulant installed in these machines, which gives us momentary joy and satisfaction.
Even with all the wonderful features, I feel VR will cause more damage to humans than good. For instance, we can see how the use of phone has cause decrease in social interaction, how much more VR that is more advanced and with stimulant that would make people completely forget about the real world.
There's also addiction, spending so much just to live in a fake world and wanting to be there every minute. This can cause mental breakdown because real social engagement has been lost.
I think that with VR gaining popularity, sensitization should be made to educate the public especially our youth about the health implications of VR. It will get to a point when people will leave the real world and spend more time living their dream life through VR and this will require spending so much time, affecting their health, brain activity and way of reasoning.
We don't want such to happen, so we should try to set a balance so that we have fun through VR, while we maintain our social interaction with friends to enhance brain development and healthy life style.
This is my entry for #scifimultiverse #smp-w28. Post written by @kachy2022 ❤️❤️❤️
Still we spend most of our time in the virtual world by staying online on social media but if we start to use VR then obviously we spend a lot of time in it
That's is going to be a lonely world, living a fake life.
Congratulations to you for participating in this contest. You have highlighted the importance of maintaining balance in the topics you have highlighted. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment.
VR is powerful...no doubt, but like you said, the danger lies in forgetting the real world. Balance is key, otherwise we risk losing genuine human connection.
Exactly, we have to strike a balance.
Technology as a whole has caused social interactions to reduced drastically, now we prefer to spend more time on our phones than interacting with eachother..
True, but that shouldn't be the case so don't we don't loose out on real friendship.
