The struggles to earn more in my country

avatar

It's no longer a hidden news about the difficulty in my country and how the airport is filled with people making their way out for greener pastures because of the situation in my country, Nigeria. A country where no rules or regulations are put to regulate prices of commodities, increased rents, utility bills and transportation, is a place hard to survive and because of the increased cost of living which the average man can't afford, there's increase in crimes all over the country.

There are graduates who spend millions in their course of study and it took them years to graduate only to come out wandering the streets and going from one establishments to another in search for job and when they managed to find a job, it's definitely not enough to foot the bills, let alone to have savings for family or other future plans.

When you decide to have a business of your own, the shop owners can wake up the next day and tell you the rent has been increased by a hundred percent and there's nothing you can do about it. When you calculate your rent, utility bills, transportation, feeding, and other miscellaneous, you will realize that you aren't making anything from the business. This has resulted in many businesses shutting down because they can manage the business anymore due to the expenses.

My neighbor, whom I admire and praise that they were doing well. He was working in a factory, and he has gotten to the top position where his take-home salary is good. We were shocked when he told us that he was going abroad so he could earn more to take good care of his family. We were all surprised because we didn't see it coming from someone who was comfortable. A lot of people have left this way to look for better pay because our currency is devalued, and many can't meet up with the expenses to survive in my country.

Those who seem to have it easy are politicians, people with high connections, or those whom their family have accumulated family wealth and properties to be inherited.

It's very difficult for an average man or an ordinary man to earn more in my country. In fact, it's almost impossible, and that's why people are looking for opportunities outside Nigeria.

This is my entry to #iucontest for the week, with the theme "How easy or hard is it to earn more money in your country" the topic is one that is focused on the situation of earnings in our different countries. It's an interesting topic that I invite you all to participate in the contest by clicking on the link below.

The struggle is super real my sister. It's just sad especially for graduates whose parents have spent so much resources to see them through school, with high hopes after graduation. We will keep on fighting to the best of our ability. Digital platforms like Hive have gone a long way to help us with extra earnings

Yes, o, we just need to keep focused on our target. Hive has been really helpful in helping offset some bills. I'm really happy learning about this platform.

That of shop rent increment is the worst of it now, some will wait and watch you fix the shop to your taste and they will quit you, life is so difficult in Nigeria, making money requires extra effort and extra source of income.

You are right. I still feel that if the government tries to regulate rent payments on shops and houses, things will be a bit better. Those people are exploiting us. Now they've also increased my rent. We will keep surviving anyway. 😌
