How much is too little for a power up

Holla friends, we will be welcoming April in a bit and as we all know, the first day of every month is one that hivers take seriously because it's a power up day (PUD).

But some might still wonder what a PUD is, and it's important or benefits to them.

This is just an elementary explanations of what a PUD is, what it means to STAKE and the benefits of POWERING UP.

Well, just as it's name implies, a power-up simply means to convert, swap or exchange some tokens for Hive that can be staked or locked.

What then is staking?

Staking means to set aside or convert your liquid hive (liquid means it's tradable in any open market) in a way called power-up, which can be used to support the blockchain and also have influence on our earnings and activities in the community.

Benefits of staking hive?

Well generally, hive is full of various kinds of benefits, that's why it's been my best platform since discovery on 2nd of November, 2024.

But I guess I have to focus on the bone contention "benefits of staking hive"

● One most important benefit is the ability to influence governance through voting power, making decisions, and activity taking parts in shaping the future of hive.

I believe this is one reason a lot of people go overboard to power-up, because of the quest for power, to control others and make decisions that could affects other and then again I guess it's a good thing, otherwise.....

●Staking hive also contributes to the security of the blockchain, it maintain some sort of stability for the smooth running of the blockchain which is good for all of us.

● You can as well earn interest when you stake hive, this a sort of passive income which can have a good return on your staked hive over a period of time.

There are many more benefits, but I will just draw the curtains at point 3. You can share other benefits or importance in the comment section.

IN A NUTSHELL...

Staking Hive is a good plan for those with long-term commitments to the growth and stability of hive. So you can add to the contribution of the ecosystem by staking some hive, no matter how little...

How much is too little for a power up?

Well, I honestly get intimidated when I see some huge amounts of power up and might likely shy away, feeling mine is like a drop of water in the ocean.

But I guess it should be channelled to being an encouragement and a driving force to work harder or probably smarter instead of seeing it as an intimidation.

So my first power up was as little as 10 hive and I got a tiny bee badge from @hivebuzz.

This time, I will be powering up a little more hopefully, let's see how tomorrow goes with my finger crossed for another badge for PUD.

So there's no specific amount for a PUD, your power-up should be influenced by the funds available to you, your circumstances and your goals or vision.

For HIVE POWER UP DAY you could power up 11 or 110 Hive, and I think that I will Power Up 110 again also.

As for "how much is too little", when I first signed up years ago, I only powered up 0.35 USD worth , which was not very much at all. Back then there was not very much explanation how it worked. An account needs at least 150 HP to optimize the voting function, and 600 Red Fish, Dolphin 6000 , Whale 60,000 are the levels. So how much to power up is your choice, but we are swimming together! :D

Thanks for the breakdown. I'm just 5 months on hive so I'm still on my learning curve.

I'm also open to learning new things and improving, I noticed a lot of people hoard information concerning hive for reasons best known to them, taking my time to explore and learn more so I can better explain to others.

I think (from memory) you need to power up 10 HIVE or more to get a bee in Hivebuzz.

But to me, the biggest benefit of growing your Hive Power (whether powered up on HPUD, grown through posting rewards, or any other way) is that it increases your vote value. When you upvote someone, then both you and they get matching rewards, and the reward is your vote value x your current vote power x the % you upvote by.

It is worth making sure the total reward the post or comment you upvote gets is over the 2 cent "dust threshold". Any votes under that are lost, but it's not usually a problem.

But coming back to the original question.... power up what you can afford to power up, and no more. You can always power some more up during the month or save it until the next HPUD if it turns out you could have afforded more 🙂

Feels like a mathematical equation with all the multiplication 😁😁, I understand better now, I didn't know that increasing my HP has a direct impact on my voting rewards.
Thanks for the detailed explanation!
