3 years 36 months and 1096 days of love friendship and family memories

Holla friends, greetings. It's my 3rd wedding anniversary, and I'm excited to reflect on my 3 years of togetherness with my husband. Going back the lane to 3 years ago when my now husband proposed to me, I knew it was going to happen sooner or later but when it finally happened I honestly didn't know how to feel about it.

At first, it was overwhelming. Being a surprise proposal, a lot of people were involved, lots of drama, and the whole thing made me shy. Don't get me wrong, I was definitely happy, and I knew I was with someone who really loves me and would take care of me.

The second problem was fear. I knew that after proposal, marriage would happen in less than a year and even though I had prepared my mind, read books, and watched movies about marriage, I still had that fear of "what if"

I was scared I wasn't really ready or that I wouldn't be able to manage a home effectively. Our parents especially the African parents makes marriage look like a very difficult task, talking mainly about the problems encountered in marriages and working extremely hard even if to displease oneself, in order to satisfy the men and make them happy.

I wanted something different from the typical African kind of marriage, I wanted a home of peace and friendship, where the man and woman respect each other, understand themselves and respect their choices. I had a heart to heart conversation with my husband and we agreed on a number of things that would help us in our marriage.

I realized from my own experience that one can actually create their own happiness through joint efforts of both couple. Setting goals and making decisions based on agreed guidelines or principles.
Marrying a friend is the best thing that has happened to me, having someone who treats you right, who truly cares and respects you. One who understands your feelings and notices the slightest change in your countenance is a blessing. I have come to realize that marriage is very beautiful and juicy. You just have to play the cards well.

And always remember that it shouldn't be about the material or monetary aspect, that's where a lot of people get it wrong and end up with failed marriages and broken hearts. LOVE and RESPECT should come first before looking at the material aspect.

These past 3 years have been a great learning curve for me and I'm still learning. You never stop learning in marriage.
