The features I would Look out for in a Smartphone Upgrade: Lessons from My Own Experience
I recently had a pretty eye-opening experience with my old phone. It was an Oppo model with just 32GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM, plus a 4,000mAh battery that was decent but not remarkable. The camera quality, however, was truly disappointing, so I never even bothered to use it for photos or videos. Within some months, the storage was filled up, and I found myself constantly needing to delete important apps just to make space for others. It became a frustrating cycle, and on top of that, the phone was always hanging and slowing down, so I couldn't enjoy using it at all.
Eventually, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I managed to save up enough money to invest in a new phone with better features. My budget wasn’t huge, but I wanted to try out a Samsung since I'd never owned one before and had heard good things. After checking out a few options, I found a Samsung model with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, which already felt like a huge improvement. To top it off, it had a 5,000mAh battery, which meant more usage time before needing a charge. So, without a second thought, I decided to go for it.
Fast forward two years, and I'm still using the same Samsung phone. It’s been reliable with no major faults or technical issues, which is more than I could say for my previous Oppo. The battery life is still going strong, and it’s been a much better experience overall. But even with all these improvements, there’s one thing that continues to let me down: the camera quality.
At first, I didn’t think much of it, but when I joined Hive, I realized just how much of an issue it could be. Whenever I wanted to take quality photos or videos to upload, the camera just didn’t capture the level of detail or clarity I was hoping for. The quality is okay for everyday shots, but if I need to take photos that stand out, it falls short. It’s been pretty frustrating, especially since I now have more reasons to share pictures that are clear and professional-looking.
Another issue that's started creeping up is the storage. Despite the 64GB upgrade from my last phone, it's starting to fill up. This has led to occasional slowdowns, especially when I have several apps open or when I’m trying to multitask. It’s a bit of a reminder of the challenges I had with my previous phone, though thankfully not as severe. Still, it’s become clear that my next upgrade needs to account for this if I want my phone to be fully functional in the long term.
Now that I’ve had both good and challenging experiences with two different phones, I have a much clearer idea of what I need in my next device. When I look for a new phone in the future, the first thing i would I’ll be focused on which i never did before is finding one with better camera quality for high-resolution photos and videos then the next one would be ample storage space so I don’t have to keep deleting apps, a very fast processor to handle multitasking smoothly, and, of course, a strong battery to keep it going throughout the day. With all these features, I think my phone would become a much more powerful tool that can support everything I need it to do.

Always best to have these experiences early so when we are able to we can afford the best we know what to look for
Yeah as they say experience is the best teachers.
I agree with you, this is what I experienced too. I can feel what you feel.
There's usually one thing or the other to be unsatisfied with on phone's that aren't flagship models. Good you now know exactly what you want in a phone. Your next phone, still Samsung or do you have a certain one in mind? Thank you for sharing.
I am thinking of going for an iPhone since it has a good camera quality and i never used one before. But then I am still unsure of that and might just go for a Samsung that has all those features I have listed.
Tough choice...
Checked out our BIG announcement yet?
