Sugar, Self-Awareness, and Strength: A Weekend Reflection.

Hello everyone!

I came across an interesting #weekendengagement prompt recently, and it really made me stop and think. The first part of the question was:

“Could you cut out sugar completely? Explain why or why not.”

Well, after giving it some serious thought, my honest answer is no, I can’t cut out sugar completely—and I have a few reasons why.

First of all, I’m someone who naturally enjoys a little bit of sweetness in whatever I consume. Whether it’s tea, snacks, or even some meals, that slight sugary taste adds something comforting for me. It’s not like I overload everything with sugar, but I do like to feel that pleasant taste when I eat or drink. It makes me feel good, and honestly, food just feels incomplete without it sometimes.

Now don’t get me wrong—I’ve been working on reducing how much sugar I consume. I’ve cut back on soft drinks, I avoid chewing gum all the time like I used to, and I try not to eat too many sweets at once. But cutting sugar out completely? That would be difficult.

Also, let’s not forget that our bodies need sugar in moderation. It provides energy, helps our brains function, and keeps us going during stressful days. Cutting it out entirely could lead to low sugar levels in the body, which might cause issues like dizziness, fatigue, and, in worse cases, hypoglycemia. I don’t think I want to risk that just to say I’m sugar-free.

For me, it’s all about balance. I enjoy sugar, I try to consume it wisely, and I believe that’s enough to stay healthy while still enjoying life.

Now to the second part of the prompt:

“What are three reasons why people should like you?”

This one made me smile a little because it’s not every day you’re asked to reflect on what makes you likeable. But after thinking about it, here are my three reasons:

1.I Learn From My Mistakes

I’ve made my fair share of mistakes—who hasn’t? But what matters to me is how I deal with them. I’ve learned over time that the best way to move forward is to own up to those mistakes, accept responsibility, and make sure I don’t repeat them. I don’t act like I’m perfect, because I’m not. But I make an effort to apologize when I’m wrong and grow from the experience. That kind of self-awareness has helped me become a better person, and I think people appreciate that.

2.I’m Respectful

Respect is something I value so much. I believe everyone deserves to be treated well—young or old, rich or poor. I try my best to be humble and considerate in my words and actions. People may not always remember what you said, but they’ll remember how you made them feel—and I always want to leave people feeling respected.

3.I Genuinely Care About the People Around Me

One thing that truly defines me is how much I care about the people in my life. Whether it’s my family, friends, or even someone I’ve just met, I always try to be thoughtful and supportive in any way I can. I don’t just check up on people because it’s convenient—I do it because I honestly want to know how they’re doing.

When someone around me is going through something, I feel it too. I might not always have the perfect words, but I try to be present, to listen, and to make sure they don’t feel alone. Life can be hard sometimes, and I believe a little care and kindness can make a big difference.

Caring for others comes naturally to me, and it’s one of the reasons I think people feel comfortable around me.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear your thoughts, too.

Excellent answer, my friend. Eliminating sugar completely would also cause us some health problems. The best thing would be to reduce it, but eliminating it completely in my case wouldn't be possible either. Regards.
