Music: The Universal Language That Speaks to the Soul.

Music is one of those beautiful things in life that doesn’t need translation. It has this mysterious power to connect people, no matter where they come from or what language they speak. I’ve come to believe that music is truly a universal language — one that speaks directly to the soul, even when the lyrics make no sense to you.

There was this song I stumbled on recently, titled “Kamin.” It’s a Russian song, and honestly, I don’t understand a single word in it. But the moment the melody started playing and the singer’s voice filled my ears, I could feel the emotion so clearly — it was like sadness and longing wrapped into one. I didn’t need a translator or subtitles to understand what the song was trying to say. That’s the magic of music. It reaches places that words can’t.

This kind of experience has made me realize how powerful music can be. You might not understand the language used, but you can still feel the passion, the pain, the joy, or the energy behind it. It’s as if your heart knows what the artist is saying, even if your brain doesn’t.

Another example that always fascinates me is the global love for Nigerian music, especially artists like Asake. He sings mostly in Yoruba, and yet, I’ve seen people from different countries singing along to his songs, word for word, like they grew up in a yourba state like Lagos or even anywhere in Nigeria. I remember watching a video of some European fans vibing hard to one of his songs“Sungba,” and I was just smiling like, “Wow, how do they even pronounce those words so well?” It was actually mind-blowing.

But then it's not just about the lyrics. The beats, the rhythm, the flow — all of it plays a role in how people connect to a song. Music has its own way of making you move, making you feel, and making you remember moments. Sometimes, it reminds you of a person, a place, or a feeling — even if you don’t speak the language the artist is using.

One of the most beautiful things about this is how it has the ability to bring together people from different cultural backgrounds. You could be at a party where no one speaks your language, but once the DJ drops a hit song, everyone starts dancing and singing like best friends. It breaks down barriers. It builds connection. It reminds us that deep down, we’re not so different from one another.

In a world where language can sometimes divide us, music does the opposite — it unites us. It’s like a bridge that allows us to step into someone else’s world and feel what they feel. And in moments like those, you realize that language doesn’t always need to be understood for communication to happen.

So yeah, music is more than just sound. It’s an emotion, an experience, and most importantly, a language — one that everyone can understand.

Thanks for reading.

Music is the great connector of the world. It's indeed the lingual franca of the world.
