Spill the Beans Prompt Week 76 : Mom doesn't love coffee, but I do.

Hello coffee lovers !

I grew up with my mum always drinking tea, and as a kid , it was usual to also take what your parents love to drink or even eat. My mum never loved taking coffee even up till now,she just has this kind of deep love for drinking tea that she never for once considered taking coffee. She believes because she is now getting old , coffee isn't good for her health. Even this morning when I spoke to her about coffee, she said, she doesn't love taking coffee because it won't make her sleep well and that most especially "nescafe coffee" is a kind of coffee made for students who are in school and would love to read overnight and not fall asleep.

Her response actually made me burst into laughter ,i thought of convincing her and change that narrative of her about coffee, but I just didn't get the chance to,maybe some other day. She always make herself hot tea almost every morning before she leaves the house and she never thought for once, to consider drinking coffee.

I can say for sure that I am the only one that loves taking coffee in my family, even my brothers and sisters don't love taking coffee as well, maybe because we grew up getting used to the taste of tea or maybe because of the fact that our mum never loved taking coffee.

Each time I go to the local shops to get my Nescafe 3 in 1 coffee, my mum and siblings always wonder why i so much love taking coffee and what i always derive from it because they don't see any importance or use in it.

You might be wondering how I came to start drinking coffee, let me explain.

On a fateful day , it happened that I was in school and I was just hungry and looking for what to eat , to atleast be okay. The price of food has been hectic and high in Nigeria , so as soon as I bought my bread from a local shop, I began contemplating and thinking of what to take with the bread because as usual, i was used to taking my bread with tea or beans and I wanted to try my bread with something new and different.

After buying my bread from this woman at the shop, I just made use of the opportunity to ask her for something good I can take my bread with , and that was when she convinced me to buy the Sachet Nescafe 3 in 1 coffee for about 0.133$. The price was okay by me , but at first ,i was scared to buy the coffee because I was never used to the taste and also because i believed it would be very bitter. Now, because she was a woman I had a good relationship with ,and because I knew she won't advice me to buy something not beneficial to me, i paid and got the coffee from her.

Immediately I got to the hostel , I looked for an electric kettle boiled my water and as soon the water was done boiling, i poured the Nescafe coffee straight into a cup and added the hot water into it. I was still scared to taste it but i eventually faced my fears and gave it a go. As soon as I drank this coffee , i loved the taste straight away and I even almost finished it , before eating the bread i bought. It was from that moment my love for coffee began . After that time,i still bought the coffee several times from the woman at the shop because I loved the experience I had with it.

You may never know if you will love taking something or love the taste, if you have never tried it out or give it a go. This also applies to other areas of life.
