A failure that shaped my education.

Failure can be understood as the lack of success in achieving a desired goal or outcome.

Failure at times comes from lack of seriousness or from distractions. It sometimes important we fail because that will shape us and make us determined to do what it takes to achieve success.

My experience with failure and how it shaped me.

It happened that I resumed for my first year in the university late, we were supposed to resume in September but I resumed in December. Due to the fact that I resumed late,I wasnt able to attend lectures and they have also covered alot of topics and done exams as well,so I was asked to write my own first semester exams during summer. Summer is a period where students that failed a course, will have the chance to pay a certain fee and re-sit for the exams ,and this usually takes place in August in my own school and last for just a month.

I didn't fail a course but since I didn't sit for the exams at the expected time with my classmates, I had to write them in summer. I wasn't ask to pay like the other students that failed a course, since I already paid my school fees complete ,before resuming the school as a fresher.

Now it was time for summer, and I resumed early so as to be able to attend classes and write the expected notes for my courses.

I have always heard this rumour in my school that summer examinations are always very easy and students can never fail because obviously they paid for the summer and they won't want to fail , also because they paid a certain fee the teachers will consider them and make the exams a bit easier for them.

I believed this and let it affect my results. I was having a computer based exam and I felt because it was summer , I wouldn't fail because the course was an objective course i can just just guess whichever option is the answer and even if i fail the teacher can probably help me out. I was playing a day to the exam and I wasn't reading or even briefly check my notes in the the pdf file. I was so stupid that I didn't realise the exam was going to be marked by the computer and not the teacher, and the teacher can't even help me ,even if she wishes to.

Now,the day of the exam came and immediately I logged in my profile on the computer ,I saw questions that made me have a re-think about my life. I was blank and didn't even know more than 20 out of 70 questions I was asked. I just chose any option I felt was the right answer and I submitted successfully.

Deep down in my mind,I knew there was a high chance I end up getting a D in that particular course. Now, the result were relasead and I was in eager to check what I got , the first course I saw was this same course and I saw I had 33% which was F and that means I failed the course and therefore , have to re-write the course.

It was at this moment i knew it was possible to fail summer examinations. I was so sad and down , because that was my first exam in the university and I ended up having a carryover. I told my mum and she was really disappointed in me.

I had a re-sit for the course in the following year, and I ended up getting a B in it.

This experience, thought me to always take my courses seriously and everything i engage in as well , and as well focus on each of my courses 100%. It has also made me to prepare well for my exams and never take any of my courses for granted.

Yes I failed , but atleast my failure shaped my education and has made me always want to achieve success in my studies.

Thanks for reading.

I think we learn to stop underestimating life itself when we have experienced a thing or two. This is something I also experienced as a student
