Suspect in $190M Nomad hack to be extradited to the US: Report
Alexander Gurevich, a dual Russian-Israeli citizen, was arrested in Israel on May 1, 2025, at Ben-Gurion Airport while attempting to flee to Russia under a new identity.
Gurevich is accused of exploiting a vulnerability in the Nomad crypto bridge in August 2022, initially stealing about $2.89 million in tokens. The flaw was then exploited by others, leading to total losses of nearly $190 million.
After the hack, Gurevich allegedly contacted Nomad’s CTO under a fake identity, admitted to the exploit, apologized, returned about $162,000, and demanded a $500,000 reward for finding the vulnerability. Negotiations broke down after Nomad offered him 10% of the stolen assets.
The US filed an eight-count indictment against Gurevich in August 2023, including charges of computer fraud and money laundering. The US formally requested his extradition in December 2024.
If extradited and convicted in the US, Gurevich faces up to 20 years in prison, a much harsher penalty than he would face under Israeli law.
Israel’s State Attorney’s Office has petitioned the Jerusalem District Court to declare Gurevich extraditable to the US. A hearing is scheduled, and the process is ongoing.
Gurevich’s arrest and pending extradition mark a significant development in the international effort to prosecute major crypto crimes.

Well, that's one way to make international headlines! Trying to flee under a new identity after a crypto heist - not the smartest career move. Looks like Mr. Gurevich might be learning the hard way that crime doesn't pay, especially in the digital age where the blockchain never forgets. Interesting to see international law enforcement cooperating on crypto cases like this.
