The Struggle To Survive

If making money were easy, many people would be billionaires by now. If making money were easy, we wouldn’t have poor and hungry people roaming around the street. Making money is not easy in any country. Of course, it comes a little easier in some countries, especially developed countries, but in others, you have to break a sweat to put food on the table.

Here in my country, before technology got advanced as it is today, you had to toil day and night to make money. You needed to sacrifice your free time and put all your effort into work. However, things are better now. Technology has made it a little easy to make money. Maybe “easy” is not the right term, but thanks to technology, making money is at least possible now and that’s a big plus.

Sadly, for those still living in the age of darkness, making money is extremely difficult. For example, in my country, teachers are underpaid. Despite the fact that they play important roles in society, their job is not well valued. Private schools pay teachers meager salaries that wouldn’t even sustain them for a month. How do you expect someone like that to take care of themselves and their families? Years ago, when I was still in high school, I learnt that they were paying the teachers 25 thousand naira monthly, that is about 14 dollars. 14 dollars monthly? That’s horrible. How can teachers survive on that?

That is why some of them take up extra teaching jobs. They go house to house doing home lessons for their students. It is quite the opposite in other countries. That’s why I mentioned earlier that making money comes off easier for some while it is extremely difficult for others due to their country’s system.

Teaching jobs are not the only ones affected. There are many other jobs where making money requires a lot of effort, yet the money they make is little. “Half a loaf is better than none.” If people actually had better options, I'm certain that many people would choose not to work in this country because of how difficult it is to make money.

Because some people cannot keep up with the difficulties of making money in Nigeria, they resort to fraudulent and dubious ways. To some people, it is easier to scam people of their hard-earned money than to go out to work, regardless of how hard it will be to make the money. No matter how I choose to look at this, I will always find it extremely disturbing. Why would you choose to scam people instead of going out and getting something done?

In summary, for many people, making money in my country is very hard. The system is messed up and there are no good jobs. The jobs available are the ones where you have to work tirelessly. But I still think that if the majority of Nigerians learn how to make money legally online, then things would be better for them. For example, instead of selling things by the roadside, they could learn graphics designing and make money from it.
