The Karma Wheel

A few months ago, we analyzed an interesting novel in school. My lecturer, a literature guru, was present and she made the conversation more interesting. The book we analyzed was On Black Sisters’ Street by Chika Unigwe. The book revolves around 4 ladies who were tricked into working as prostitutes in another country. In search of job opportunities and greener pastures, they fell into the hands of Dele, a sex trafficker. Dele promised them “golden opportunities” in Belgium, but beneath those promises were hidden agendas. The analysis of the book was really interesting because everyone had something to say. Well, the atmosphere of the classroom changed when we got to a part that led to a heated argument; Karma.

One of the girls who got tricked by Dele is Sisi. Sisi comes from a very poor family. Her parents invested everything in her education, but after she graduated with first class, she couldn't secure a job. Unfortunately for her, she fell into the hands of Dele who tricked her into working as a prostitute in Belgium. This is how it worked; when the ladies got to Belgium, they were stripped of their names, their identity and literary everything. So if they wanted to run away, where would they run to? They possibly wouldn't want to get deported. The money they make goes directly into Dele’s account, and they get their own share by the end of the month.

Sisi falls in love with a particular guy who promises her real love and to change her life. So, she decides to run away from Dele and his “organization.” Just as she was about to flee, Dele sends one of his workers to kill her. This wouldn't be the first time Dele would do such a thing; to ruin innocent ladies lives. Before Sisi passed on to the next world, her spirit traveled over to Dele’s house where his daughters lay on the bed and she whispered something in their ears. Now, this is where the analysis got interesting. Our lecturer asked us a question: Sisi definitely cursed Dele’s daughters, she probably said something like “What your father did to me will happen to you in ten folds.” But will this truly happen? Will Karma fight for Sisi?

Some people agreed that Dele’s children would suffer just like the way Sisi did and as a matter of fact, they would suffer in ten folds. Others say Karma won't do anything- Dele’s children will enjoy their lives as if their father never committed a crime. In their defense, Dele’s children didn't have a part to play in the things their father did, so it is not right that they would get punished for their father’s sins. Do you think Karma will fight for Sisi?

I believe in Karma. Although Karma might take time to strike, it will strike and the fact that it might strike in the most dangerous way and place makes it possible. You will reap what you sow whether good or bad. My mom is a good example of this. She can literally spend her last dime on people in need. Surprisingly, whenever she needs help, whether financially or not, good things always locate her. In conclusion, Karma exists but it might take time to strike, so just keep doing good.

With what I read now, if you ask me I could say yes karma will definitely come for dele's. Sooner or later. This is beautiful to read. Thanks for sharing.

To answer your question, Sisi's spirit will definitely be granted justice. First, she didn't deserve all that. And the universe has to balance it all. The funny thing is, maybe, she didn't curse Dele's daughters, but promised that somehow, someday, they would feel the pain of injustice inflicted by their father. Maybe their children will be the debt payers, and then they can truly understand the pain. Or yet maybe, she asked them to redeem themselves before karma visited.

It was a good read! Thank you for sharing😊

Karma always comes around. There is a thing as karma. We all reap what we sow.
This is an interesting read.
