The Beauty Of Success
The term "success" does not have a fixed meaning. What I consider success might be completely different from what someone else sees success as. For this week’s India United prompt, the community asks an interesting question; how do you define success. Many people think success is just about having money and being financially capable to buy whatever you want. While this makes up for a very large percentage of what success entails, it actually goes beyond that. I’m sure that if a survey were carried out among people, especially youths, the majority of them would only talk about the financial aspect when asked about their definition of success. To you, what does success mean? What does it mean to be successful?
In my opinion, the first thing that comes to my head when I hear the word “success” is financial achievement, financial independence or financial capability. There is no nobility in poverty. Everyone likes to be financially capable of buying whatever they want and that is definitely the kind of lifestyle I want. Success for me means being capable of buying whatever I want without even considering the price. Many times, I have thought about the many things I would do for my parents when I finally become successful. They have sacrificed a lot of things for me and it is only right I repay them in multiple folds for everything. Success for me would mean buying nice things for them and making sure they live a happy life.
Moving forward and not being stagnant, for me, is also success. One mistake many people make is not counting their small wins. For example, if you are a businessperson and you made a total sales of 500 goods in January and the next month, you make a total of 600 sales. That right there is success. In school, one of my close friends had it rough in her first year in the university. She didn’t take her education seriously and when the results came out, she performed poorly. The next year, she started attending tutorials and that year, she performed well. That right there is success. Success is when you are not stagnant and when you experience growth in whatever you do.
Success, for me, means raising good, God-fearing and hard working kids. It means building a good home with my partner. In today’s world, it is rare to see successful marriages. Does this mean there are no successful marriages at all? No, it only means that building and maintaining a home requires a lot and not so many people have what it takes. Success for me would mean getting married to the right person. Someone who you want to spend the rest of your life with. Success means raising good kids and being capable of providing their needs and satisfying their wants.
I could go on and on talking about the things I consider success, but these are just some of them. As mentioned earlier, success is relative. There's no fixed or absolute definition of success, so it's fine if you have different definitions from the ones I mentioned.
