Saturday Hive Chess: Big Defeats!

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”- Paulo Coelho

Yesterday, the chess brothers played another round of the Hive Chess tourney. I played amazingly well despite the fact that there were many higher-rated players. I finished 5th with solid points. Earlier today, we played another chess tournament hosted by another host. This time, things didn’t go my way. I beserked games I shouldn’t have, played eradicated and made silly blunders. I can’t tell if I made those blunders because I wasn’t focused or maybe it wasn’t just my day. As usual, I’ll be reviewing some of my games in this post.

My first game was against a lower-rated player. I wasn’t over-confident, but before I could blink twice, I got check-mated! I hadn’t even made up to 10 moves. Very embarrassing!

Justfavour VS Stranger27

My first “solid win” was against this player. After I had lost many games, I decided to take it slowly and stop forcing it. I didn’t beserk. That would have been horrible. I was happy when I discovered a fork and captured by opponent’s piece. It was at the time I knew I would win. Still, I didn’t let my guard down.

I moved my Queen to c5 and then Qxe5

Justfavour VS @justola1

I got paired with Justola two times. While he won the first game (in a very brutal and embarrassing way), I managed to win the second game. I blundered a few times, and Justola also did the same. Particularly towards the end of the game when he could have captured my pawn and destroyed my pawn structure:

The pawn in b7 was hanging, but I guess he missed it. Instead, he played h6 to check my king. Maybe he would have won if he hadn’t played that way.

Honestly, these are the only games I played well. The others reek of blunders. I won other games, but they were against lower-rated players. Some of them were even lucky games. I hope I play better next week.

As usual, thanks to our host @sam.chess
See you all next week!
