Review: Saturday Hive Chess S1R19
I remember the first time we started this tournament. I was playing well, even in the midst of higher- and stronger-rated players. My opponents were stronger in terms of ratings and skills; regardless, I managed to win against them. I got compliments from the host and some other players. But now, it seems things are falling apart. The truth is that I don’t have a reason why this is happening. I keep making silly blunders, and the worst part is losing to lower-rated players. The most obvious reason might be that I haven’t been practicing well. As usual, I’ll review some of my games in this post.

My first win was against Fiona, a lower-rated player. We have played a total of 34 games. I have won against him 30 times while he has won four times. I knew I needed as many points as I can grab, so I beserked the game. I baited my opponent and surprisingly, he fell for it. I captured his Queen!

I played Kf5, opening my Queen to reap his Queen, but he totally missed that. Instead of taking my Queen, he played d4, an unnecessary move.

I played a lot of messy games and this was one of them. I can’t deny the fact that Justola played way better than I did. I also can’t deny the fact that I committed a disastrous blunder. I started the game well. Justola even left a pawn hanging and for some a while, I was leading. Well, not until I blundered.

After that interesting move from Justola, he captured my bishop and seized control of the game. What’s even more impressive is the checkmate. Horrible day for me.
