Book Review: Atomic Habits

A week ago, in the Hive Book Club weekly hangout, I shared that I was going through a phase where everything just didn't seem right. For more than two months, I had been struggling to read. Books are one of my favorite things in the entire world. I wouldn't know what to say if someone asked me to choose between books, anime, and chess. Now, imagine not being able to do what brings you joy? Your favorite things. The worst part was that I couldn't pinpoint where the problem was coming from. All I knew was that I kept struggling to read books. Whenever I picked up a book, I would not be able to go past a few pages. So, last week, I decided that enough was enough; I had to make it stop. I decided that whether I liked it or not, I had to start reading a book.

Well, I kept postponing this plan until I came across a book on X; Atomic Habits by James Clear. It was recommended by one of the bookclubs I follow on X. I have always wanted to dive into the world of Self-Help books. When it comes to reading, novels are usually my go-to genre and it is interesting that I have finally taken a big leap. I'm glad I came across Atomic Habits by James Clear. Not only does it remind me of the importance of healthy habits which I had already established, but it also opens my eyes to new things.

Moving on to the book, James’s introduction really caught my attention. He opened the book by telling a story and that piqued my interest. This book is not one I would love to rush. I think I want to take my time reading this; slowly and carefully. I want to write down every important thing I can, no matter how long it takes me. I'm not done with this book yet. I have only read the first chapter and one thing I can say about it is that this book is one everyone should read at least once.

**The Surprising Power of Atomic Habits: Why Small Habits Make a Difference

According to the author, if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you'll end up 37 times better when you are done. The first chapter of James’ book explores the importance of small habits. There's a very popular quote that goes; A drop of water makes an ocean. Let’s use a bodybuilder as a case study here. A person who wants to build muscles will most probably not see results just by working out for 2 days. They might not even see results from working out for 2 months. But does that mean nothing is happening? The author mentioned that increasing whatever you do by one percent isn't particularly noticeable, sometimes it isn't even noticeable at all. However, if you keep doing that same thing over and over again, with time? You'll see significant results.

In the early months of last year, I struggled to write posts on Hive. In fact, I took a very long break from Hive because I struggled to balance school, tests, presentations, and classes with Hive. I thought it was impossible, until someone came into my life and taught me better. I started writing three posts per week. We didn't see maximum results immediately, but gradually, I increased my output from three posts to four, and now I write daily. I've been keeping this streak since last September. I've realized that to achieve any goal in life, all you have to do is set your mind to it and start! Strive to get 1% better, and before you know it, you'll be a pro.

I totally enjoyed reading the first chapter. Let’s see how it goes with the rest.
