Anime Review: Sword Art Online
Sword Art Online is one anime that piqued my interest from the first episode till the last. Of course, there were some unnecessary scenes, but in general, the anime impressed me a lot. I have a long-list of anime to watch and interestingly, Sword Art Online is not the next on the list. I stumbled upon it by chance and it caught my attention and then I proceeded to download it. I don’t know what other anime lovers are saying out there, but this one right here is an underrated anime. It is like a gem that has not been discovered by many people. The anime is set in the year 2022 when everyone was obsessed with video games. In the midst of all other video games, a particular virtual reality game called Sword Art Online is released.
This game is not your usual VR game. Players have to wear a headset called Nerve gear which transports them into the game, so they are physically present in it. They play the game as their own characters. You don’t feel physical pain in the game and you can long out anytime you want. Well, not until the creator of the game, Akihito Kayaba changes the whole narrative. The players soon realize that the logout button is missing. Akihito Kayaba appears to them in the game and reveals shocking information; the players are tapped in the game, meaning they cannot log out and the only way to complete the game is to clear all 100 floors of the floating castle. What is more concerning is that if the players die in the game, they also die in real life.
The anime revolves around Kirito, one of the players who is trapped in the game. He is a solo player who goes around leveling up and getting stronger. As the story progresses, Kirito finds himself in the midst of friends. Unfortunately, he lost his squad; people who were close to him and genuinely cared about him. Will Kirito and the other players manage to clear all 100 floors? How many people will they have to lose to the monsters for them to finally reach the 100th floor? Watch the anime to find out.
One thing I love about Sword Art online is that it blends both action and romance. I’m more into action-themed anime than romance themed anime. But I love it more when both niches blend. Sword Art Online primarily focuses on leveling up, defeating monsters and trying to complete the game. However, in the midst of this, there are beautiful love stories. For example, Kirito meets Asuna, a beautiful and intelligent player, and establishes a relationship with her. Not only does she help in battles, she also becomes his reason to live.
I also like the fact that Kirito, the main character, is not overpowered. That would have ruined the whole thing. I totally enjoyed watching Sword Art Online and I recommend it to other anime lovers.
Have you seen this anime? What are your thoughts on it?
Thanks for reading.

One of my favorite anime 😍 I remembered the first time I watched this was from a cd still before when I was young, my favorite part here was asuna and yukis fight altho it was very short but I loved their interaction
Whoa! You watched it from a CD? That must have been a really long time.
I don't know if I should consider it "an underrated anime," but many of us who have been in the anime industry for a while already know its story. Yes, Sword Art Online revolutionized this small subgenre of adventure linked to science fiction and action. Since then, similar works of virtual worlds in the pure MMORPG style have been broadcast and adapted. However, as revolutionary as it was, the way the story was executed in subsequent seasons ruined many of the things that were initially good about the show.
Not counting the unnecessary fan service, there are those explicit scenes of violence against female characters. This happens not just once, but up to two or three times throughout the entire anime. Scenes that simply weren't necessary and are only there for who knows what, really. The last few seasons managed to improve some of the flaws it had, but in the end it ended in a rather dubious way. On the other hand, there's also the romance aspect, which honestly isn't all that well done either.
Yes, the relationship Kirito develops with Asuna at the beginning is very nice, and everything, But then in the following seasons there is no sign that there is anything, even and they talk to each other and are only seen together with the rest of the team who are mostly girls. And they're all constantly fighting over who deserves to be with the main character, which doesn't help a relationship move forward or move anywhere.
Well, SAO has a lot of good things, yes, but it also has a lot of bad things, in my opinion. Personally, of all this BOOM of anime that came out of this style, the only one that I liked the most of all is Sangri-La Frontier, which revolutionized the way of telling an adventure and action story for true video game fans.
Good post.
Hello there, Natto. It is evident that you have been a fan of the anime world wayyy before me and I really respect you for that. I wonder why I just discovered SAO many years after others have seen it. Well, I guess it is better late than never.
I’ll check Sangri- La Frontier out.

Este fue uno de mis primeros animes ❤️ es simplemente una joyita de los animes del 2015-2017
Aunque la primera temporada es de las mas conocidas y queridas todo el anime es una joya
Sword art online is one of my favourite anime and it's among the first anime that piqued my interest and hooked me into watching anime as a whole. I really love and enjoy watching it especially the fact that kirito always go to extraordinary length to save his lover asuna whenever she is in trouble.
I like the way the anime blended both the romance and action together, balancing everything smoothly and perfectly.
Great review @justfavour, and I will also recommend others to watch it, if they haven't done that yet.
Sounds interesting. I'll add it to my watch list. Thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome.
You should do that.🙂↔️
This was the first Isekai anime I watched, so it was something new for me 👀 The first season was amazing, as was Alicization, but I didn't really like the others and didn't think they were necessary 😂 Even so, the characters are very good and the plot was captivating 👌 a very good anime!
I have only seen the first season. Yes, the plot and characters are amazing.
Thanks for stopping by, friend.🌹❤️
