An Ever-Changing World

The world keeps changing. Centuries ago, the world was in total darkness. Technology wasn't as advanced as it is now and the early men performed tasks using crude tools. Gone are the days when humans made fire using sticks and stones, the days when they treated wounds with herbs and roots. Humanity evolved and we moved from hunting animals to exploring space. In the early 21st century, humans have already evolved to a certain extent. Android phones weren't popular at the time, but there were button phones. My siblings and I often fantasized about those phones. We thought they were the “future.” I also remember how we made use of kerosene lanterns, those ones with glass around them and a thread that connects to the kerosene. Gone are those days! Today, very few people still use button phones. Who would use button phones when there are iPhones and Samsungs? Who would use kerosene lanterns when there are other better methods? There is no doubt that humanity is evolving rapidly.

What is the next step? For today’s Hive Learners’ prompt, the community asks us what the next step in evolution is. What kind of changes do you think humans will have that will make them more adaptable to the ever-changing world? In my opinion, we are just getting started and humanity still has a long way to go. Take a good look at the world today, there are so many changes in different aspects. Technologically, we have evolved to great extents. But in other areas, we are lagging. If our forefathers were to see the way things are currently, I’m not sure if they would be ashamed or proud of us. In the next decades, humans will have many changes that will make them more adaptable to the ever-changing world.

TECHNOLOGY

When it comes to technology, we have come a long way. From using arrows and swords to using rifles and bombs. From using horses and camels for transportation to using planes, cars, and jets. Even with these improvements, we still have a long way to go. Years ago, no one knew anything about AI. Well, maybe only a few people did. But today, AI is literally everywhere. There are different AI tools for specific tasks. There are AIs that help make deepfake videos, AI for academic purposes, and so on. Currently, people might still be able to detect original videos from AI videos, but soon enough these tools will become more advanced and humans will have no choice but to get used to it. To be more adaptable in a technologically improved world, human beings would have to compulsively become tech geniuses.

HEALTH

Health will be a major part of human evolution. For now, the only way to battle cancer is through chemotherapy. From the things I have heard, some patients do not survive chemo. There's no “safe” or permanent cure for cancer. Also, diabetes doesn't have a cure yet. Patients live with it forever, they extend their lives through drugs and infections. One thing I'm sure of is that this will not remain like this forever. There will definitely be a time when scientists will develop permanent and safe cures for these diseases. It might not be today, not in the next 5 years, but one day. Who knows maybe AI will also have great impacts on health in the future? Maybe people would prefer to get treated by robots instead of humans?

SOCIAL EVOLUTION

Human beings will have to accept the fact that the world is moving fast and that things are no longer the way they used to be, especially when it comes to conversations around gender, identity, and sexuality. In the past years, words like queer have become popular. While some people are against it, others support it. Soon enough, human beings will have to get used to these words. They will have to get used to multiple identities whether they like it or not. To adapt in an ever-changing world, human beings will have to pick a side and stick to it.

In conclusion, the next stage of human evolution is already happening. Gradually, we are actively moulding the future although we might not be aware of that yet.

If you’d agree with me, our evolution now is centered around technology and funny enough, we are doing very well around technology in some aspects of life such as health.
