Transhumanism - the new religion of the lost souls
Since the modern scientific era, religion has been shredded and dumped on the trash heap of history and replaced by secularism based on science. Who in their right mind, in their left brain, would believe the old superstitions of the church, mosque or temple when they claim concepts which have clearly been refuted by modern scientific findings? Laws of physics have replaced God. There's no more need for a creator because everything works by logical scientifically verified processes. Or so modern humanists declare.
Yet the sad part is that by removing everything that was once sacred, divine or even just magical from the equation of life, something else was extracted - man's sense of meaning and purpose.
Religion used to give our lives meaning. It gave us all value. It also gave us answers to the great mysteries of existence. Even if those answers were questionable. At least it provided a sense of order to the world before science and a reason for living.
When religion left the primary perch in the psyche of humanity, usurped by science, life went on and even externally improved, but it affected human psychology in subtle yet corrosive ways, eroding at our sense of purpose, of meaning and value. Life became shallower, superficial and shrunk down to neat formulas that explained everything but simultaneously made human life disposable.
Since there was no god, no purpose to life and therefore no accountability, nihilism and hedonism crept in, bringing with it a rise in depression, alienation and meaninglessness, which we ignored or subdued with material pursuits but which grew in the background, in our collective unconscious.
Atheism left a hole in the soul which religion used to fill to make us feel whole.
That said, archaic and false superstitions and taboos propounded by the priests were abandoned, and that was a good thing. Those priests often had ulterior motives like control and subjugation of the masses using the fear or retribution from a wrathful deity.
It eradicated absurd notions, like the church declaring the world was created 4000 years ago. Such ignorant claims were the stock of blind Christian fathers leading their blind flock just a few centuries ago.
Almost 100 years ago already Carl Jung wrote his book called "Modern man in search of a soul". Depth psychology helped many to find meaning again and enrich their lives and psyche. That was in the last century. Today most of the world still live in secular nations where religion is an optional afterthought or an outright taboo. How the tables have inverted!
And in today's world science and technology have grown so pervasive that soul searching of any sort is relegated even further to the background and the young generation has less awareness of it. They're too busy chasing the externals. They may be unaware of what they've lost in depth of character development, in the fact that they are empty or hollow men and women because the magic or sacred has been removed from their existence. They may feel depressed without knowing why.
And in their search for something to believe in, to give their life that which they've been deprived of by science, they are making science their new religion.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the rise of a modern movement called Transhumanism.
"Transhumanism is clearly a religion—indeed, a particular type of neo-Gnostic religion. It attracts adherents today—including educated, wealthy, powerful, culturally influential adherents—because it taps into unfulfilled, deeply religious aspirations and longings. It is an ersatz substitute religion for a secular age."
After all, it includes the prefix "trans" meaning transcendent or above and beyond the mundane, something which was once only attributed to religion. It gives us what religion used to provide - a way to rise above our frail and petty mortal existence.
The paradox is that Transhumanism implies supplementing life with something inorganic, something dead. Instead of evolving us to greater life, it makes the replacement of life as the goal. Merging with machine is just the start down a treacherous slope toward replacing life with machine and calling it life. Slowly but surely it removes the very essentials of what it means to be alive, replacing it - and us- with something dead but able to simulate life. It may not happen immediately but that's the direction in which Transhumanism is focused.
Bionic limbs and enhancements are just the start. When it comes to uploading your consciousness to the computer cloud to attempt immortality - something one purely the domain of religion - we may end up with something more machine and less human with each iteration, until we can no longer tell the difference and lose track completely of what it means to be human.
Transhumanism is thus the religion of death. Yet it's disguised as a better version of life. It replaces soul with AI.
This new religion is becoming more and more popular among the rich, the educated and the elite in society today, which means it's only a matter of time before it's implemented by them and swallows all humanity on earth.... except perhaps for a few desert dwelling rebels and mystics.
By basing its philosophy on the very opposite of what it means to be human - unique, fragile, flawed but still most valuable, even sacred in and of itself - the new religion of Transhumanism, set up as the returned savior, will introduce our executioner.
This is the direct inversion of what it means to be human, it denies the perfection of nature and of human life in and of itself, despite all its flaws. It will lead toward the gradual extermination of life on Earth, first by killing of the weakest, by which I mean the microbes, insects and lower species, either because they're seen as obstructions or because they become collateral damage. And eventually, as planned by the eugenecists leading the new religion, it will eradicate those humans that are deemed useless eaters, the sick and damaged.
Ultimately it eradicates the original truth that all life is valuable, is worthy and is - in and of itself - sacred, because it threw the baby out with the bathwater when it removed the erroneous religions, yet failed to preserve the mystical sciences of consciousness, like those found in the ancient yoga traditions of India among others.
At this juncture in history it is more urgent than ever for societies like India, Tibet and others to preserve their ancient Wisdom, lest it get destroyed under the jackboot of ignorant and greedy politicians or their new high priests - the men in their lab coats and computer screens, as we've already seen in China and Europe.
"But because it is grounded in an entirely false notion of what it means to be human, if we recklessly embrace the transhumanist dream, we will find ourselves instead in a nightmare dystopia of stupidity, weakness, and death."
