En mi última visita a Cayo Jutias, una playa que se encuentra en la costa norte de Pinar del Río puede ser testigo de un suceso asombroso (al menos para mí). Caminaba por la arena y de repente percibí entre la vegetación una enredadera que se extendía con porte señorial sobre el terreno.

On my last visit to Cayo Jutias, a beach located on the north coast of Pinar del Rio you can witness an amazing event (at least for me). I was walking along the sand and suddenly I noticed among the vegetation a vine that spread with stately bearing on the ground.

Me provocó asombro ver a esa planta, bajo el intenso sol del verano de Cuba, a pocos metros del mar me ofrecía una gran lección de vida: Florecer en el caos. Por qué digo esto? Observando los restos de otras plantas a pocos metros del lugar comparaba el destino de ambos tipos de plantas. Unas sucumbieron a las pruebas de la naturaleza mientras que otros no solo se adaptaban sino que se mostraba en todo su esplendor.

I was amazed to see that plant, under the intense Cuban summer sun, a few meters from the sea, offering me a great lesson of life: To flourish in chaos. Why do I say this? Comprendi que por más frágiles que parezcamos y por muy agreste que sea el contexto siempre podemos encontrar alternativas para "florecer". Esta planta aprovecha las bondades de la arena, que confieso: para mí no tenía otra cosa que belleza hasta que pude ver cómo esa enredadera sabe encontrar los nutrientes necesarios para desarrollarse.

I understood that no matter how fragile we may seem and no matter how rough the context may be, we can always find alternatives to "bloom".
