Ladies Of Hive Initiative #239: My Dreams And Why I Like Them

Greetings members of the Ladies of Hive family. It's good to have you again in this space.

This week, I'm asked to write about my dreams and why I like them. You know, in life, everyone has their preferences, and until they fulfill them, they won't have peace of mind.

The same thing applies to someone trying to turn you into who you're not and will never be in the near future. To me, I believe that people should be allowed to chase their dreams by themselves and not the other way around.

I have a dream, and I'm working towards it. When I was a child, I developed an interest in languages and other aspects like phonetics and syntax.

Being a Linguist, a phonetician, and a syntactician has always been my dream. You might wonder why I had such a big dream to fulfill.

I love learning people's languages and also using that medium to learn about the sound system of those languages, as well as the structure of sentences in such languages.

Then, after acquiring that knowledge, I always see it as a duty to transfer what I have learned so far to other people by organizing a tutorial class for them.

It's always my pleasure to see a dream come through, even when I'm not fully certified in that field.

I know what I want, and I'm saying this from my experience.

Each time I learn a new language, I feel like all my problems in the world are gone. I feel satisfied without any form of regret. I enjoy every moment I spend in the language lab with my colleagues and Lecturer.

It makes me see a brighter future ahead of me which can not be seen with ordinary eyes. I'm doing well in my discipline, had it been I wasn't fit for that, I would have fumbled.

But the passion I have for languages is very genuine and strong. Doing what I like has made me, me, and not someone else. I enjoy every bit of it.

I want to summarize my write-up by sharing my experience. When I wrote jamb, my Aunt came to the house and she asked me to go for accounting.

But I insisted. I told her I didn't know Mathematics, and besides, I'd never attended an Accounting class before.

She went ahead to persuade my parents. But why did she do that? She had a wrong perception of linguists. She told my parents that she didn't want me to go and start dressing immorally like other linguists.

I didn't understand what she meant by that, because I wasn't brought up that way. My parents taught me how to dress properly.

She thought she had won my parent's hearts, but when she left, my parents asked me to choose what I have a passion for.

I always appreciate them for not forcing anything on me, but rather they backed me up with their prayers.

Thank you for reading through.

Beautiful post, and that's what life is always about: learning and then sharing everything you've learned with others. These are dreams and goals achieved that should be shared. Much success to you.
