CREATIVE-SUNDAY: MODELS, LEARNING ABOUT REALITY THROUGH PLAY / DOMINGO CRIATIVO: MAQUETES, APRENDENDO SOBRE A REALIDADE ATRAVÉS DA BRINCADEIRA (EN/PT)

The basis for creating the houses, buildings, churches and various stores were medicine boxes. To make them, we covered the boxes with office paper, then printed the doors and windows, and to finish the roof, I used brown wood paper. The houses were ready!

Cutting, pasting and making was a job done by everyone present (father, mother and son).

After creating the houses, my son said: Daddy, let's make the city where we live! I thought about it a lot and decided to use some old Styrofoam that I had saved. I marked out the road, my son painted it and we started gluing the houses together in the shape of a city block. Out of nowhere, my wife said: Are you going to have a farm? That was all my son wanted to hear. He got super excited and started saying that he was going to make the animals, that there had to be trees and a pond. “What was supposed to be a morning task ended up becoming an activity that took up the whole Sunday”

We started making the rural area. The pond was made by wetting sheets of paper and molding them into the shape of a pond. We left them in the sun to dry and then we paint. The barn, the rural church, and the other houses followed the same process as the houses in the city. We ran out of materials for houses. I had to go to a pharmacy to ask for some empty medicine boxes. When we got back, we started making them again. We only stopped for lunch. I think it was the first time I saw my son so committed to something.

Continuing with the activity, we changed the name to model. Whether we wanted to or not, we were building something that identified the urban and rural areas. To finish, the fences were made with popsicle sticks and we filled in some situations with toys. The entire playful activity lasted about 8 hours. We started in the morning and only finished at night.

I won't lie, it's a lot of work, but seeing your child's commitment and happiness in carrying out the activities is something that brings us happiness. When everything was finished, we built a ramp for the Hot Wheels cars to climb and created a new track to play on.
