In preparation for my pupils and students end of the year graduation party
A lot of things happened that made my day today. My school is now in her third term and every third term is always a time for graduation. It is during this term that students move from one class to another, especially those in Primary 5 who will be promoted to JSS1, those in JSS3 who will move to SS1, and the SS3 students who are about to write their final exams that will take them to the university or other higher institutions.
Because of this, my school always makes the graduation party a big celebration. The graduation is not just for student to have fun but also to showcase what the students and pupils have been learning and doing in their various groups and clubs. This year was no different. The school management has set aside special day (thursdays) for the students to prepare and practice before the actual graduation day.
Each club has something special to present on that day. There is the Press Club, where students learn how to report news and talk like real news reporters. There is the Debate Club, where students learn how to speak in public in public, argue with points and support their views. Then we have the Drama Club, there is also the Quiz Club, the Choreography groups. We also have the Young Scientists Club, also known as JET Club and finally the Spelling Bee Groups.
Each club had been practicing for many days. Some stayed after school to rehearse, others used the club periods during school hours. Today the school decided they will be given the chance toth students to present everything they had been practicing.
The event started with the graduate students as they walked into the ground dancing. Everybody clapped for them. They were very excited and dancing.
After they settled down, the choreography group came up to perform. They had been practicing their dance moves for a long time, and when they began to dance, their steps were all going in the same direction and at the same time. They really did a wonderful job.
After the choreography group finished theres, the cultural dancers came out and also displayed their own dancing steps.
Then the Young Scientists Club, also known as the JET Club. They brought out some of their projects. They constructed two small toy helicopters using cartons and DC motors. One of the helicopters used solar energy to move while the other one used a battery. It was amazing to see what this young students could build with simple materials.
After the science display, it was time for the Quiz Club. They came forward with their tables and chairs and sat facing the audience. The principal selected me to ask them the set questions. I stood in front with a microphone and asked questions on different subjects. The students did their best even though most of the questions were very tough,
After the quiz session, it was now the turn of my own club, the Press Club. They came out with the news I had written for them and started presentation. They did excellently well, I comment their performance honestly.
All the other clubs also did very well. The Debate Club presented a topic and gave strong arguments on both sides. The Drama Club acted, the Spelling Bee Group came up and spelled words and most of them spill out the words we gave them correctly.
The teachers of the various clubs were very proud of the students performance and the school head rounded up with a word of encouragement for the students.
Judging from the performance of the students today, I will say that the graduation is going to be a good and memorable one, hopefully after the termly exams, the graduation party will comes up.
