Hive Reachout weekly prompt 45//An Unforgettable Event (Cult Clash)

Hello Hive family and the entire Hive-Reachout community. Welcome to another exciting episode of the Hive Reachout weekly prompt 45 tagged "An Unforgettable Even."

We all have experience events at some point in our life that is unforgettable. Those events have create memories which can either be bitter or sweet memories.

I have experience many unforgettable events in my life, some of which have create long lasting memories. Some of those events include outboast of Book haram terrorist group in 2009 that started right from my very community in Maiguduri, Borno state on a Sunday morning where I experienced bomb blast right in my own eye, going for my excursion to the yankari games reserved, my most embarrassing in Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) lafia, My matriculation day event, falling in the hands of criminal entrapment (one chance) and many unforgettable events but the most recent one I will like to talk about is a Cult Clash event that took place in my school.

I schooled in Benue State University, Makurdi and for those who knows Makurdi very well, it is known as the motherland for one of the cult group in Nigeria. Before the government intervention in 2021, Makurdi was in terror by cult groups. They even celebrate their day and during this celebration, you dare not wear any cloth that has same colour as theirs. For those of us who lived close to the school environment, we are more vulnerable to them.

The two major cult groups in that area were the Red and black. One day a huge clash occurred between those two groups that look the lives of many.

It was on a faithful Friday morning when I went to fetch water from the well. I saw some students running haphazardly. Curiosity made me ask what was happening and someone told me that cult guys(black) are beating someone.
I lived in a three storey building apartment and from the window, I could see what was going on. Those cult guys were holding big sticks like the side of my hand (not exaggerating) with other harmful objects. They laid the guy down and was beating him mercilessly. The reason for their action was because, the guy was dating a lady who was dating a member of the cult group. After beating him, they released him. Unknown to them, the guy they beat up was also a member of the opposite cult group. The news spread to the ears of the opposite group and that was it..

 Things are about to get ugly.

At the night of that same day, few minutes after I returned from school, I heard three gun shots at the back of the house, about 30 seconds, I heard another gun shot and a shout. I was terrified and locked myself inside. Few moments later, everyone came out and saw a dead body butchered with an axe on the head and gun shot spots covered in a pool of blood. He was a member of the black cult group that was involved in beating the other cult guy member (red).

  Things are about to get more ugly 
  and bloody..

The next day which was Saturday, the police came and took the body and about 9am that morning after the police had left, we started hearing several multiple gun shots and people running. I left what I was doing and ran inside, looking through the window. The cult groups (black) came back to retaliate for killing one of them. This time three persons were killed from the opposite group (red). The situation went out of control and by evening around 5pm to say, the huge clash begin. This time both groups came out to face eachother, gun shots everywhere. From my window, I saw how someone used an axe to butchered a fellow human being. One of the group outstand the other and in my very eyes, the group that overshadowed the other caught some members of the opposite group, cut them several on their body and light them up on fire.

A few shoulders were send to calm the situation but the intensity of the violence was to hard for them to handle, they had to send for extra hands. That was the first time I saw a human being been killed like an animal.

The coming of COVID 19 and the intervention of the state government deploying security agencies and prosecuting anyone involved in cult activity calm the issue of cult activities in Makurdi.
This event was one of the unforgettable event that had taken place right in my eyes.
