Embracing failure as a path to success.
Failure is something that happens to everyone in life. Not everything we want in life will always come the way we wanted. Sometimes we try hard but still we are not getting the result we wanted, we tried to do something but did not succeed.
It happens to everyone. Many of us see failure as a bad thing, some see it as a curse, but in real sense if you look at it from different perspectives, you will know that failure is not actually a bad thing or a curse.
You might have studied hard and prepared for a test but ended up failing the test, yes you will feel bad about it but failing that test gives you an opportunity to go and study more, know the areas you've made mistakes and correct yourself.
Failure help us learn and grow if we decide not to give up. It can serve as a stepping stone to success if we don’t give up.
When we fail, we shouldn't look at it as a disappointment but rather a means to learn and ask ourselves what went wrong? This thing I'm trying to do did not workout well, why didn't it workout? What happened? Did I used a wrong approaches? How I'm I going to go about it this time around?. When we ask ourselves questions, we get to learn different ways we can do better next time.
If we fail a test, we know which parts we didn’t understand or do well. We can study those parts again. Next time, we may pass or even do very well. Without failing, we might not know what we need to do next to improve ourselves.
I read a story about Thomas Edison, one of the greatest inventor in history. Somone who failed but later succeeded. He tried many times to make the light bulb. He failed over a thousand times but didn't not stop trying until he finally succeeded in making the light bulb. Someone once asked him how he felt about failing so many times but Edison said, I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work. This statement to me seems like he saw failure as a way to learn, learn from the mistake and trying other means to get his results. He didn't see it as something to be ashamed of. He failed thousands times before he got it right. He didn’t see those failures as bad. He saw them as steps that helped him learn new ideas that will make it work this time.
Failure is not something to be afraid of, but something to learn from.
A writer named J.K. Rowling wrote a book. Many people said no to her book. But she didn't see that as a failure but rather she kept on trying. One day, someone said yes to her book and now her book is loved by many people around the world. She did not gave up when she failed.
Michael Jordan, the famous basketball player once said, I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
Even though he failed many times, he kept playing and became one of the best basketball players ever.
These are examples of people who didn't give up when they failed. Their failures didn't stop them from achieving the goal, the failure serve as a stepping stone to their success.
I love giving this personally experience I've had back then in elementary school. I was known to be an unintelligent, brainless, unserious student in my class. I failed every subjects and my grades are always the least grades in class. I performed very poor in all subjects especially mathematics, my classmates use to look down on me alot and even some teachers do mock and discouraged me. But my mathematics teacher was the only one who kept on encouraging me and motivate me to do better, he took me as his own and began teaching me privately at home. I also pick the challenge and start studying at home. I start learning privately. Most one I will close myself inside the room studying until I began to learn. One day during the speech and prize giving day at my school, to the amazement of everyone, I was called out among the best student that year who performed excellently well in various subjects. I didn't allow the failure and insult I received to weigh me down, I picked challenge and become a better version of myself.
Failure teaches us to be brave and strong and not give up easily. Sometimes we need to have the spirit of perseverance. Life is not always easy. Sometimes things go wrong but when we keep trying, we get stronger inside. We keep going even when things are hard or we are not getting the result we want.
We think in other possible ways we can use to achieve something when we fail. We try to draw a picture and it doesn’t look nice, we might try again with different colors or shapes.
This is how new and better ideas are made, by trying again in a new and different way. If one idea doesn’t work, another idea might work. Many good ideas and inventions were made after people failed and tried again. Without failure, we might never find other possible and better ways to do things.
It’s very okay to feel sad and disappointed when we fail. Yes that is normal. But after feeling sad, we must ask ourselves, What can we learn from this failure? and How can we do better next time?. With this, we can turn that failure into a lesson.
Failure is not the end it but the beginning of learning, growing and doing better. Many great people failed before they succeeded. What made them great was not that they never failed, but that they kept trying and never gave up. Failure is not something we should be afraid of but something we can learn from. We can turn our failures into steps that lead to success.
