Today is the weekend and weekends are usually the only time I have to do extra things for myself. During the weekdays, I go to work and return home around 4 or 5 in the evening and by then I’m already tired. So I always look forward to the weekend because that is when I can take care of other things I'm doing.

This morning, I decided to visit my small farm. It is not far from the house, just a short walk away. I cultivated the farm myself and planted some crops there. So, when I got to the farm, I noticed how green and good looking every plants was. All the crops I planted had germinated well. The whole place looked greenish. I felt very happy to see how the plants are doing.

I had divided the farm into different parts. More like a mixed cropping method of farming. One part is for maize, another part is for sweet potatoes, then turmeric, okra, millet, and pepper and even planted the ugwu leave, I don't really know the name in English but it's a very nutritious leaves that serve as medicine and add supplement of blood to the body.

Each crop had its own area, and they were all doing well. The maize had grown tall and I could see that some of them had started bringing out flowers at the top. That is usually a sign that the corn will soon begin to appear.

However, not everything was perfect. I noticed that some insects had eaten parts of the maize leaves. I was not really hàppy about it. I thought after spraying some insecticides, the farm would be free from such things, but I had to deal with it since insects are part of nature. I will try and look for a simple way to control them without affecting the plants.

The sweet potatoes really amazed me. They had grown and spread all over their part of the farm. Their leaves were big and green, covering the soil like a blanket. It looked beautiful. I can’t wait to harvest them when the time comes.

The okra also grew well, but just like the maize, I saw some insects on the leaves. I will have to find a way to keep the plants safe. Despite that, it was lovely to see how healthy the plants looked. The millet and pepper were also growing, though they were still young compared to the others but the millet have started bringing out it seed already.

The turmeric also grew well and it's looking good.
The ugwu leaves have grew and have spread across the woods. Normally woods are place to some height above the ground level because leaves like this grew and the leaves just keep moving to any direction they want to. In other to prevent them from growing anyhow, the woods are placed.

Watching the plants grow, knowing that I planted them with my own hands, make me happy . It made my weekend feel useful, hopefully towards ending of the month or probably next month, most of the crops will be ready for harvest.
