Retention has always been the most discussed issue on the Hive Blockchain and this is mostly because of its unique comparison to some of the most popular web2 social spaces.

I once saw an argument about engagement being one of the reasons why retention is poor on Hive, but in this video, I talked about the general retentive ability of the regular web2 user and how people are now wired to be attracted to thumbnails, clickbait, shorts as well as shiny content materials.

I talked about how the general usage of the internet has made people poor in retention, the pattern of creation, and how the regular internet user has "little time" to consume numerous contents.

Generally, everyone who is going to be onboarded to Web3 will be from Web2, so I talked about why a shift in culture and the inability for flexibility is why web3 will suffer retention, and why Hive is the main scapegoat in this "retention argument"

It's hard when most of web2 relies on views to get monetized. What they sell is usually ads or subscriptions. I do agree that Hive is different. We are still small but once we get very large, I think we may suffer from similar issues. Hive is different from web2 though so I don't think it will get as bad as I see on Youtube or other web2 platforms.

Hive is probably already seeing it's fair share of everything. So I feel there's nothing Hive might face in that respite that we're not already seeing. I feel that retention, is something that's general, but Hive is that scapegoat because it's generally felt that with all the endowment we have, retention shouldn't be a problem. This goes on to prove that going from Web2 to 3 is different and can be tiring

I think that's one of the first things I had to get used to when I joined web3, a shift in perspective in regards to content consumption. Most web2 users are getting a shorter attention span, making it hard for them to really take in information and understand it to a deeper level. Hive on the other hand, increases my attention span, I read a post and connect the dots in my head before giving a comment when applicable.

Exactly you've hit the nail on the head. The shift in perspective is what makes it seem like there's always going to be a retentive problem, while this is true, I believe that when people fail to do things differently regarding how they approach web3, whether it's hive or anywhere else, they'll always find it difficult. A lot of web2ers think it's too much. While I believe we can make it smoother, there's no harm in building what you intend to enjoy..

Indeed! One can't repeat what they're doing on web2 into web3 and expect everything to be the same. I think that's shift is needed to make the best use of web3 ecosystems. Without that, things will seem difficult to many, especially with retention. A different approach is required.

However, I feel that the struggle for adoption is why we mostly blame the chain for everything. That switch from the web2 mindset is necessary and no matter how simplified and usable hive becomes in the future, we still cannot run it like the regular web2 application.

Absolutely! Perhaps, the stickness for Hive in terms of social media users is cultivating the web3 mindset through having a different approach than web2 platforms.

It's weird because Hive is one of a kind, I think there will be other web3 chains in the future. So Hive is just setting the pace, so it's going to be tough

Well, I just feel good that Hive is quite different from other web2 platforms and the majority of us are open to opportunities on here

The way we see now that Web 3 is becoming very popular all over the world and people are starting to work on it. If they are getting some money, it is a very good thing because it will make people work harder.
