How Do You Walk Away From The Troubles In Your Life?
I decided to visit my aunt a few days ago to have my blood pressure checked. She is a nurse, so she obviously has all of these kits with blood pressure cuffs and stuff for checking sugar levels.
So it wasn't like I actually wanted to check my blood pressure, but it's been a while and I've been stressed mentally and physically. I had high blood pressure in my early twenties, and during the same year, my father died and my mother had a severe stroke; unfortunately, they are both no longer alive.
I began experiencing severe chest pains as a result of the mental decapitations, which lasted for several months. So I was essentially surviving on NSAIDS because they were the only pain relievers that worked for me; apparently, I was unaware that I had high blood pressure.
I received a lot of my medical diagnoses when I was 25, and I lived in denial about them all because I did not think I was sick or anything, and when I finally got them all, I refused to believe despite the symptoms and manifestations.
My aunt was already aware of my diagnosis and had cared for me since I was a teenager, but I had to face my fears and learn about them on my own. Gentic conditions are a mess, and I did not care. Apparently, this is the mistake that many people make when they receive a shocking diagnosis: they live in denial rather than taking proactive steps to care for themselves.
During that year, I experienced a lot of trauma and stress, which led to the development of high blood pressure. It manifested as chest pain, making it nearly impossible to show up at work ten years ago.
My aunt suspected HTN based on the pain manifestation, and when she checked, she acted quickly, and that is how I began taking blood pressure medication, and after a few years, I was back to 116/70 God most of the time.
Losing my only brother was another traumatic experience. I visited three hospitals in six months and saw over five doctors, including a specialist hematologist, and my blood pressure was consistently high.
The misconception of Hypertension
I discovered it was not a lifestyle because I cut out all processed sugar, stopped drinking soda, and reduced my intake of processed foods by more than 50%.
I ate all natural tomatoes and drank only water. My blood sugar levels are fine. So my blood pressure problems were not caused by sugar or excessive salt consumption.
My predisposed medical condition already prevented me from developing high blood pressure, so stress must be the culprit.
Apparently, I was not physically stressed when my father died in 2014, but I was in a terrible mental state and nearly lost my mind.
The difference is that by 2025, I am both physically and mentally stressed. I am still in pain and regret over the loss of my only brother. In the last year, I have accumulated a significant amount of debt, including medical debts.
Most of the pills I take are very expensive and imported, and knowing that I will not be able to afford the next pack of pills can be stressful.
Recently, I have been staying up late. Sometimes I sleep at 1 a.m. and wake up at 6 a.m., which has been going on for about 3 months and amounts to less than 8 hours of sleep.
But I had no idea it would raise my blood pressure so quickly, but here we are again. So, here's the verdict: get more sleep. It seems simple, but it isn't.
Try to get more sleep
I am supposed to get more quality sleep, forget about my problems, and let go. Most of the time, I pray, and I find comfort in leaving everything at the foot of the cross, except for my anxiety levels, cortisols, stress hormones, and so on.
It is difficult to ignore the problems, and after my last round of BP medication, I need to go back to check the levels.
I am already on lisnopril for the rest of my life; it is apparently reno-protective (for the kidney), and I have added amlodipone for a few days (another blood pressure medication) to help lower my main pressure. There are numerous issues that I find difficult to ignore or avoid.

Hmmm. Just try to avoid stress and please take time to sleep.. I wish you quick recovery. God knows why you have to pass through this pain. I'm still healing from the shocking death of my father ,so I can only imagine how you feel for all your losses. The Lord is your strength
Thanks, it's a shock to deal with a loss, not to talk of multiple. They come with their own psychological challenges. Thanks for the well wishes
You are welcome
See me opening my mouth in shock to learn something new today. So, not having enough sleep can cause blood pressure? Well, I do sleep a lot. I sleep late at night and still wake up early in the morning, mostly for my devotion as I don't take it for joke. But during the day, I make sure to sleep to cover up the hours. Does that count? I guess not or probably true. Lol
I can't remember the last time I went to check my blood sugar level and blood pressure. This is the reason my sister keeps nudging me to get the machines to save myself from going to hospital and yes, she's right.
Problems of life..one cannot run away from them. You just have to take steps to solve them, else, they will be there and keep enlarging and that could be worse.
You need to sleep 8 hours at night and o think that's because the brain needs some resetting away from the constant usage we put it through on a daily. So maybe afternoon naps might not count, except maybe you sleep at long stretch in the day time..
Yeah, psychological and physical stress raises the blood pressure. Being heartbroken for a long time makes the body releases stress hormones that can raise the blood pressure.
Well blood sugar levels and blood pressure cuffs can help a lot. One can have diabetes for long without knowing until they develop diabetes nephropathy
Studies show that poor sleep hygiene can lead to all sorts of problems. Lack of sleep is a low level stress that manifests in increased cortisol levels.
One way to let go is to journal your feelings and concerns in the evening for review the next day. This way your mind can rest knowing that it’s written down and no longer tries to juggle all the details.
I do this when I have trouble sleeping. Once it’s written down I know I can forget and read my notes the next morning to resume worrying.
Some of my poor sleep is also habit. If I start looking at X or YouTube at night, it can turn into hours.
And it helps to establish a new habit. For example, have some tea, journal, prayer, and reading a book (not on the phone). My wife also showers before bed as part of her routine. This puts your mind into the expectation that sleep is coming.
If I wake up at night, I’ll journal or read to break the worry loop.
Thanks for the great tips. However I'm mostly awake or I wake up intermittently to do a lot of things at midnight. However I think the stress of unfulfillment and the troubles of life is probably why. However I've prioritized sleeping early and try to declutter.
Thanks for the great tips again, I truly appreciate
So sorry for your loss my boss.
I'm happy you're a man and have displayed your ability to handle matters and things life throws at you.
Sleep is the medicine for stress and I'm happy you're aware of that too. Probably taking these measures you've talked about in this post could go a long way to helping you improve your health and mental status.
I hope for the better for you friend.
Thanks for sharing.
Yes. Sleep is the standard recommendation for someone who is stressed and that's the advice I've gotten: to sleep more and let go of the things that bothers the mind
I pray that goes a long way to helping you my boss.
Keep that pressure controlled, you are doing the right thing. Hypertension will kill you if you let it run wild, keep up the good work and medications and you should do well!

Yeah, thanks a million. I know a lot about what HTN can do. Sadly it's mostly happened in some of the stressed periods in my life.
It usually does, stress make that HTN worse universally. Too bad so much of life involves stress... lol
There's a lot of stress in mine currently and I'm doing all I can go manage it.
Sorry to hear that, but I truly understand why! Hang in there!

I understand this perfectly, I also find it difficult to sleep mostly during the day time.
But for the sake of your health, your loved ones and people that are looking up to you, I think you should please make out time for sleep, rest and take very good care of yourself.
Sorry about your loss. May the Lord continue to comfort and strengthen you and perfect everything that concerns you. It's well with you.
I understand what you mean. I think most times, the body is hardly rested during the day's sleep as it's more conditioned for sleeping in the night.
Yes, I've adjusted my sleep pattern and have been doing close to 7 hours per night if not more than that. Thanks for the concern as well.
People who sleep around 3 and wake up by 7 already left the group chat 😅... I'm just learning about this today, wow! 8hrs of sleep a day sounds easy but its really not.
Eating healthy is the best and I'm glad you're perfectly fine. Take care of yourself 👍🤗❤️
Well if you sleep at 3am try as much as possible not to make it often. It's a slow killer and increases the blood pressure overtime. So I think you should sleep more.
Thanks a million, I appreciate
Yh, thank you ... I'm trying my best especially with exams around the corner 😅
You're welcome 🤗❤️

it sucks to have health issues, and its costly as well. I hope you are able to get more sleep. It's tough, but I do think that having more sleep is better than not having enough. I find that I sleep better when I am less stressed after doing a hobby like gaming.
Yeah, having more sleep is better than not having enough, but we all know the troubles in life most times don't make it enough. However I hope to keep pushing.
You have encountered multiple losses Joe, and these can easily affect you psychologically, leading to mental stress which in turn can also raise your blood pressure.
Its just so hard to forget about our problems, so difficult to ignore it or not to think about them, we are humans, I understand
However, I think you should still remain intentional about your health, let's say, think about how your immediate family will feel if they see your health in a very bad state, then do whatever you can in your capacity to control those health issues please!
Grace!!
Haha, well, I think it's an unfortunate trade-off. We've gotta stay up to make sure to provide and if not things begins to go on. The danger of lack in a family setting is really bad, but I hope I can be in that position where I can afford to have even 12 hours sleep if I want to. However today, I'll make sure to manage well and still be able to hustle as much as I want. Thanks for the kind words.
Get well soon, avoid eating salty food, oily food and also avoid chicken skin for it has lots of cholesterol. boiled foods or steam are good for you but avoid also stress. be safe.
Thanks for the tips. I'm not eating oily foods, but generally I eat food with oil, just not too oily.
You need to sleep atleast 7 hours at night, incomplte hours of sleep can worst your high cholesterol and yes,not enough sleep cause many sickness and do careful of your diet.Do also exercise and be sure to follow doctors advise, never skip your medication.
A year ago I was prescribed blood pressure pills, just like you, after drinking them for 3 weeks I decided that this was enough and stopped taking the pills - the pressure returned. I decided to lose weight and lost 17 kilograms, started eating more vegetables and healthy foods, but the pressure did not go away. The only thing I do is drink 1/3 of the pill that was prescribed and this is enough to maintain normal blood pressure. At the clinic they told me that no doctor in the world can tell me what my blood pressure is from - it can be a bunch of factors from heredity, stress, climate, sleep and 1001 more factors. I know for sure that my blood pressure is from nerves - I have a sharp release of adrenaline and then my blood pressure rises. Tranquilizers help very well, but they can cause addiction. I continue to deny and continue to look for ways to get rid of this problem, but so far I have not solved this problem and therefore take pills in small doses.
