Explaining Web3 to a 5-year-old
For a few days, I tried to test a layer one Blockchain project, but I just could not do it. Then I joined the Discord channel to see what was going on; I still did not understand. I mean, these guys appeared to be communicating in an alien language, and I was very frustrated.
The project was to transfer transactions from one Blockchain to another, but the process was excruciatingly long. So I went to YouTube to watch a few videos, but I still could not understand anything.
I checked Twitter, but no one was willing to explain from scratch. I got angry again and quit. However, I have seen this happen before.
These people are developing a blockchain and promising to reward users who test the chain; I do not want to miss out.
I did my research and discovered that this project was affiliated with another Blockchain that paid testers handsomely for their participation, and I did not want to quit.
Obviously, because the Blockchain is difficult to navigate, many people have given up, so the fewer testers, the higher the reward.
I saw two or three YouTube videos that did not provide detailed explanations, so I became very frustrated and lashed out at the person who uploaded the video that provided no real answers. Then I realized that my frustration was getting the best of me.
I had to eat and relax for a few days before I found the video I wanted. I mean, this guy's video was so good that I did not realize I had already watched 11 minutes, which is how long the process was, and there wasn't a lot of views on the video (proof that quality doesn't always attract numbers).
I had to download two separate EVM-compatible wallet before interactions and I had to request for tokens. The chain was extremely buggy, and transactions were failing.
However, I knew it was why they would probably pay people to test things like how fast the chain can handle volume, among other things.
Then I went to their discord page, fully equipped with the knowledge I already had, and I understood better. It was my first day of fully engaging with the chain. One transaction went through, while three others failed.
Why am I recounting this?
Many people believe that web3 must be seamless, similar to web2, with registration via email, Google, or even Facebook; however, I do not believe this is necessary.
Web3 will never be as popular as web2, and it is time to stop blaming its lack of simplicity for its failure to gain widespread adoption.
Advancement does not have to be historically repetitive; it is intended to be better. Web2 is unique in its own right, and web3 is an advancement; whether people want to adopt it or not, sooner or later, they will have no choice, and it is only a matter of time.
Many people underestimate what we have here on Hive. They are upset over trivial matters even though it's the wild west out there.
Hive is in a class of its own due to the way it is designed to function. We literally have no competition; this is not meant to be boastful; rather, there is nothing else like us out there. Sure, there are better projects, but nothing compares to what we have here.
Most of the time, I tell people to look into other aspects of web3, and then compare what they find to what we have here. There is no perfect place, and it is difficult out there. This is why I am so bad at onboarding.
Some people do not want to be pushed outside of their comfort zone or to learn to explore and learn on their own, and when they realize what they have to deal with, they simply give up. I recall onboarding a few people into the space.
They wanted to make money, but they could not handle everything. There is so much to do, so much to learn, and so much to be aware of that it can be difficult to adapt at times, but if you want to get the most out of this space, you must put in the effort.
Hive is probably one of the easiest places in the web3 space, but you would not know until you started exploring other places out there.

I know that feeling all too well! You're not alone! lol
Hive really is easy once you figure it out. It did take me time to figure it out in the beginning, but it is learnable. Web 3 may never be as popular as 2, but the rewards are much greater too. I'm glad I found Hive when I did, there really isn't any other project quite like it even if it does have a lot of imperfections!

We literally don't know to be like Facebook. I understand some feel that it's the complicated Hive keys that makes it had to retain users, but we cannot get rid of these things because of onboarding. This is the core of what Blockchain and web3 represents. Hive gets easier. We have schemes nowadays that makes it easier, you just need to find your place by your self.
Exactly! We're working on putting together a Hive school over the the Hive Onboarding Committee. It's an attempt to help people find communities that offer support getting started. I remember starting was really hard, and I got lucky finding the silver gold stackers. They helped me to really get going on Hive.
Ahh, that's good. I think think I specifically found anyone, I just groped like a headless chicken lol from one place to another and it worked for me. Plus, I enjoyed here like an obsession and was up at midnight talking to strangers lol. I'm glad those strangers have supported me up till this present, it's been a blessing

Hive is a unique place, and I am beginning to like it here. I think why most people find it difficult to stay, it's because they came in with the mindset that they would cash out and when it doesn't work out well they complain and leave.
Well at least it's not bad to have an expectation, we just gotta work towards that expectations. Impatience can be a problem, and it's up to one to preserve while putting in efforts. It applies everywhere, I wonder why the idea is that Hive should be different
Hive is one of the easiest places in Web3, but people don’t see it until they try other blockchains and see the difference. Learning takes time actually, but it’s worth it in the end.

Now I see why you said I should try exploring other Web3 spaces the other time. I think I'll stick with Hive for now, learning how to swim in the ocean of Web3. When I've mastered my strokes, I can then plunge into other spaces. 😅
It's sad that some people do not want to put in the work, learn and improve themselves. They'd rather find faults with the blockchain. Hive no send anybody o, if you're not ready to work, no chop for you 😅. Na so Bible tok am, and it's applicable in every aspect of life.
Like you, I'm bad at onboarding , the few people I did onboard were not ready to do the work before the money starts rolling in. They preferred the other side, and I let them be.
An impatient person can't thrive on Hive.
Personally Hive is home for me. There's no other place that can be "home" enough as Hive. I recently started to seek what's happening out there so as to diversify and whatever rewards I get will come back to buying Hive. The future of this place is promising and only those who will build will eventually get to be part of that future. So that's been my plan. There's no place like home.
For me, I cannot do more than I can. The Igbos says you can marry a wife for someone and still help them to make their wife pregnant. So anyone who doesn't want to help themselves is one their own
I run away from it because it's stressful, at the end, you still get blamed.
Hive is also a home for me. I guess it's the same for anyone really loves this platform.
This is a good move, and I hope things go well. I started my Web3 journey in one other platform before moving down to Hive. I must say, that I'm better off here.
Capital OYO 😅. They'll continue wasting their time while I build my wealth on Hive.
Happy new month
Yes. I think here's a good place to start. I didn't start on Hive, I've been involved for over 8 years now, and at one point in time, we have to morph into other spaces as well. I think the sentimental attachments towards Hive is why I'll treasure here over anywhere else.
Same to you, thanks.
i would say that bridging between top chains isn't that difficult because they have good documentation & many tools- while for the newer ones it's usually more challenging as they tend to have little documentation & no tools, i haven't used blockchains n their testing phase before but it's an interesting subject- what chains do u recommend ? also the youtube video with few views that u mentioned seems interesting- what's the name of the video ?. it's great that u didn't give up & figured out the solution- well done & have a great day
Yes, top chains are not difficult and that's because they're tested and trusted and they're full proof. However top chain have endurance because I believe they've been tested, and that's what newer chains wants to achieve. This is why they try to get testers to test the chain.
It has been proven to be rewarding to test layer one Blockchains, and that's why I decided to do my search and know where to start from. I've started from Twitter, a lot of information flowing there..

It's a tough process when the information isn't out there. Crypto is still a new space and the new chains/platforms are all doing things differently. It sucks when there aren't any good tools to teach you, and good luck on getting rewarded on that project.
I think at the end of the day we all get to rely on videos out there and that's what I actually did in my case. A lot is being developed in crypto and everyday too. There's a huge world out there.. thanks for your well wishes
I definitely share the same sentiment. There a more complex web3 ecosystems out there they make me think Hive is just a walk in the park, in terms of understanding how it works. I think web2 platforms have mostly reached their peak UX development but it took time to arrive at that point. Expecting web3 ecosystems to reach that level when there's still fairly new is a bit of a disillusioned, that's why I've stopped complaining much on the UX interfaces of web3 ecosystems. If I'm really interested, I'll bear with it and add it to my web3 experience points :)
Congratulations @josediccus! You received a personal badge!
Wait until the end of Power Up Day to find out the size of your Power-Bee.

Getting out of your comfort zone is necessary for learning. I am learning Hive and I have to say that I am finding it really difficult to understand how it really works.
