Don't be afraid to start from the bottom

1000545167.jpg

People who are successful at what they do and have made a life for themselves are always touted to have had some sort of unfair advantage, and that is because they are always considered lucky, however, this is not always true.

These people used to start from the bottom, surviving on scraps, begging for help, wasting time, doubting themselves, and almost giving up.

However, it is difficult to imagine that rich and powerful people were once vulnerable, broke, desperate, living in deplorable conditions, and struggling.

The reason for this is that as they have grown in power, their money now provides them with opportunities. They have a confidence that can pass for pride, but do not be fooled; unless they inherited the money, they had humble beginning

"Humble beginnings" story

I watched a lot of Korean Goryeo dynasty and Roman Empire TV shows.

These shows all had one thing in common: a dark, unexpected horse who works their way up from feeding on scraps at the palace gate to becoming emperor, unseating the king, or carrying out a sophisticated coup that makes them king.

These characters are the least likely to survive, most likely because they lacked the necessary abilities, but we then witness incredible character development and they survive against all odds.

I understand how uncomfortable it is to start from the bottom; many times, you give up, especially when you see others who are doing better than you.

The bottom is a crowded place, with many people struggling to get out, creating a competitive mindset.

Starting a business is challenging, as is starting a new job. When you start a business, you must survive the first five years, and when you work in a new organization, you must start small, demonstrate your value to the company, and hustle for promotion.

The problem here is that others are competing for the same promotion, making it a rat race. In the race, you will face betrayal, colleagues and friends disguised as wolves in sheep's clothing, and even those who will stab you in the back.

The truth is that there is no competition at the top.

It is lonely at the top, but extremely congested at the bottom, and most of us dislike starting from the bottom.

However, we are naturally designed to begin at a point and then grow or advance. This is how we learn and gain the experience we need. No matter how late we believe we are, there will always be opportunities.

People who missed out on BTC at 600$ will feel cheated because they believe they were not privileged to be early adopters, but if you look at it that way, you will forget that BTC has not even been around for 20 years.

In a hundred years, many people will regard this generation as the luckiest, unaware that we felt like failures for missing BTC at $600.

Same with Hive, there are people who would say, "I wish I was here in 2017 like edicted or just like gadrian or maybe theycallmedan," and this regret stems from hating the feeling of starting from the bottom and having to network until they get to the top.

Conclusion

Networking is one of the most difficult aspects of climbing life's ladder; forming an alliance of colleagues and business people who will trust you in exchange for the assistance they want to provide.

Starting at the bottom can be scary, but you do not have to be afraid. Sure, many people will fail at it, but it may take you a lot longer to succeed.

For me, it is probably the sunk cost fallacy. Most of the time, I remember saying, "I have come too far to give up," and then losing everything I would worked for. The sunk cost fallacy may not be completely useless, and as a result, I am afraid of giving up after coming so far.

Starting from the bottom is rough, but it builds character. That lonely at the top, crowded at the bottom part, is so real. Feels like life is just one big RPG grind man

I agree. It's lonely at the top and that's why we have few people who controls the world, and many people at the bottom who are struggling for scraps, but then it's our reality and shouldn't be scared of it.

yes my friend we shouldn't be scared, accept it for what it is and fight to grow regardless

How can there be competition at the top when it's almost an empty space? Those at the top already knows their onions and they're enjoying every bite of it. The "bottomists" are facing stiff competition while trying to get to the top.

Everyone wants to get there, but not all will, eventually.

Not all of us will get there and that's the saddest story reality ever. But then, I think this challenge is good especially because I relish challenges and as bottomist myself

We're all bottomists until we get to the top.

It's tough, but we all have to start from somewhere, and if its the bottom, there is no way but up. It does require work though. I think the people who make it from the bottom are more likely to stay at the top, and I think a dark horse story makes the entire story more interesting.

Exactly, the people who started from the bottom are likely to stay at the top because they've made sacrifices to get there. I like the dark horse story too as well. It's very fascinating and scheming.

It's not really easy to start from the bottom, because on plenty occasions you will feel like the world is against you but it takes consistency, resilience and plenty of patience and time, to get to the top.

We start at the bottom in most places in life. I have just recently started a journey and it's hard to start at the bottom, but I accepted the challenge, and know that I'll succeed.

Luck never gives success, it comes purposely making moves to reach it. I respect anyone that has succeeded in life it's not an easy thing to do.

Never easy to succeed as you've said, it takes a lot, whether the means is conventional or not.

I'm not a big fan of Bill Gates, but I have to respect his "way up"... The anecdote about him that made me think, of exactly the topic that you share is short and simple... He failed many times before he became successful...

As I'm a bit older, I remember my first Windows operating system... It was Win 3.11... Did anyone use versions 1, 2, or 3? Probably not... They were disasters and failures, but he continued the development despite all odds!

Starting from the bottom is an opportunity to begin with a clean sheet and build things differently!

I probably didn't even hear of of window until 6 or 7 and many of us didn't even know there were failed beginning, because we only began using when it became a thing. Humble beginning stories are often underrated and that's probably because people are more caught up with the success stories behind humble beginnings..
I'm also not really a Bill Gates fan, but yeah, he's probably one of those success stories that's something to tell.

I have started from beginning in so many places of my life, I think it's hard sometimes and you want to give up, some people don't see it as a clean but a challenging beginning

Thanks for the curation

Some people are born networkers, extremely social and have the knack to know what to say at all the right times. I am not one of them sadly! You always start at the bottom unless your family owns a huge company and you are born into it. Again, I wasn't that lucky... The bottom is very crowded, and I've found that starting your own company is stressful, but is much more fulfilling that working your way through the ranks. You may not even make it through any of the ranks, best to make your future for yourself in my experience.

Those who start from the bottom and work their way up to the top are hardened in tough battles, some of them lost. That is why the builders of empires are usually much tougher than their heirs.

I wish I was here in 2017 like edicted or just like gadrian or maybe theycallmedan

I'm honored to be included in such a company! We are still early, as you said in the post, but everything it's a journey, and every little step matters. However, I've seen people join much later who had a fulminant growth. If we were to move our attention to bitcoin, Saylor and formerly Microstrategy didn't come into the picture until way way later compared to very early adopters. And yet, where they are now?

Starting from the bottom teaches you a lot of things. To be strong, to plan things and to be constant. Those who are lucky enough to start from the top do not create these characteristics that will be useful to them sooner or later and when they have to start from the bottom they will struggle a lot.

Exactly, those who actually start from the top do not have some traits. For me, I'll always want to start from the bottom especially if everyone had a choice to choose where they want to start from. It can be very tough when you fall and you need to rise again.
