Remember that time Elon Musk featured a “humanoid” disguised as an Optimus Robot dancing and a new post on X this time Musk presented a brief, but revealing demonstration of a real Tesla Optimus humanoid robot showing off its dance moves.

The barely 6-second video is short, but clearly shows how much the robot has evolved since its first appearance in 2021 indicating significant advances in autonomy and fluidity of movement, unlike previous demonstrations that showed more hesitant or jerky movements, this performance appeared deliberate and confident indicating significant improvements in the robot's control systems.

Optimus now executes more coordinated and fluid movements by swinging arms and legs in a rhythmic and deliberate manner, according to Musk the robot was fully trained and a simulated environment using reinforcement learning, a technique that allows it to learn by trial and error in virtual scenarios before executing tasks in the real world.

To overcome the famous challenge of the reality gap, Tesla improved its simulation-to-reality transfer pipeline, allowing the movements learned in simulation to be reproduced safely and accurately in the physical world. Despite the surprising performance, a safety cable was kept in the background of the scene, not to support the robots but as a precaution in case of a fall.

The Tesla owner also reinforced that the Optima is still in the evolution phase and that these initial results will quickly become more stable with new adjustments, analyzing the information you can get an idea that the big leap here is the integration of AI and on-board sensors in real time, which allows the Optimus to perform adaptive movements without the need for constant manual control.

This represents an advance over previous demonstrations that often used programmed movements or remote assistance from humans. The Optimus in each new video shows that Tesla's robot is evolving rapidly consolidating its presence in the global race for general-purpose humanoid robotics, but even with this quite interesting achievement to be honest it still seems a bit clumsy and I think it should take a few more years until the Optimus becomes Tesla's next big product, surpassing electric vehicles as Elon Musk already said.
