School break is always a time that children look forward to. It is the perfect opportunity to take a break from the school routine, daily classes, getting up early and doing homework. For children it represents days of freedom and fun, but not so much for parents. Keeping children at home for a whole week can be a real challenge, especially when it comes to keeping them entertained and, importantly, not bored.
During the week off, the cultural options are usually varied and designed for the little ones to enjoy their holidays. It is common to find concerts for children, theatre performances and film screenings designed especially for this audience. However, sometimes it can be difficult to leave the house, either because of the typical heat of this time of year or because of transport difficulties. Despite this, there is always a way to find options for children to enjoy this period.
This weekend I had the opportunity to take my little girl to the cinema 23 y 12 to enjoy a performance of the children's theatre group ‘La Colmenita’ who came from the municipality of Cerro. This is a company composed mainly of children and adolescents of various ages, who overflow with talent and energy on stage.
In Cuba, ‘La Colmenita’ is very much loved and followed by all kinds of audiences. More than a theatre company, it is also a school where children develop their skills in different artistic manifestations, with branches in several municipalities of the city.
The 23 y 12 cinema owes its name to the place where it is located, on one of the busiest corners of the Vedado neighbourhood, right on one of its main avenues. This place is not only a cultural reference, but also offers a variety of recreational options.
Although I had passed by this cinema many times before, I had never been inside. So this was a doubly pleasant experience, enjoying the performance and at the same time exploring this emblematic cinema, which is also one of the venues of the annual New Latin American Film Festival held every December in Cuba.
I loved the interior of the cinema. It has a polished granite floor with the classic red carpet that evokes the glamour of traditional cinemas, in beautiful harmony with the furniture. In the lobby several posters pay homage to the seventh art, highlighting the shows presented. Right in the centre, a few steps from the entrance, an antique film camera captures the attention of everyone who enters the place. This detail made me think of the history of cinema and its antiquity.
The screening room is large and comfortable with comfortable seats and a spacious stage. During the performance not only the children of ‘La Colmenita’ performed, but also several members of the audience, including some parents. It was a very nice experience, full of laughter, singing and dancing. Both children and adults enjoyed sharing moments of joy and good energy. My child sang, danced and participated with the actors, who at every moment came down from the stage to interact with the audience. The enthusiasm could be felt in the atmosphere.
This weekend was also a way of proving that despite the challenges we may face, it is always worth looking for opportunities to enjoy, learn and connect.

El receso escolar siempre es un momento que los niños esperan con ansias. Es la oportunidad perfecta para descansar de la rutina escolar, las clases diarias, levantarse temprano y hacer tareas. Para los niños representan días de libertad y diversión, aunque no es tanto asi para los padres. Mantener a los niños en casa toda una semana puede convertirse en un verdadero reto, especialmente a la hora de mantenerlo entretenido, e importante, sin aburrirse.
Durante la semana de receso, las opciones culturales suelen ser variadas y pensadas para que los más pequeños disfruten de sus vacaciones. Es común encontrar conciertos para niños, funciones de teatro y proyecciones de películas diseñadas especialmente para este público. Sin embargo, a veces salir de casa puede resultar complicado, ya sea por el calor típico de esta época o las dificultades de transporte. A pesar de esto siempre se encuentra la manera de buscar opciones para que los niños disfruten de este tiempo.
Este fin de semana tuve la oportunidad de llevar a mi niña al cine 23 y 12 para disfrutar de una función del grupo de teatro infantil "La Colmenita" que venían del municipio Cerro. Esta es una Compañía compuesta principalmente por niños y adolescentes de diversas edades, quienes desbordan talento y energía sobre el escenario.
En Cuba, "La Colmenita" es muy querida y seguida por todo tipo de público. Más que una compañía teatral es también una escuela donde los niños desarrollan sus habilidades en distintas manifestaciones artísticas, con sedes en varios municipios de la ciudad.
El cine 23 y 12 debe su nombre al lugar donde se encuentra, en una de las esquinas más concurridas del barrio del Vedado, justo en una de sus avenidas principales. Este lugar no solo es una referencia cultural, sino que también ofrece variadas opciones recreativas.
Aunque había pasado infinidad de veces cerca de este cine nunca había entrado. Por ello, esta fue una experiencia el doble de grata, disfrutar de la función y al mismo tiempo explorar este emblemático cine, que también es una de las sedes del Festival Anual del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano celebrado cada diciembre en Cuba.
El interior del cine me encantó. Su piso es de granito pulido con la clásica alfombra roja que evoca el glamour de los cines tradicionales, en una bonita armonía con el mobiliario. En el lobby varios carteles rinden homenaje al séptimo arte, destacando las funciones presentadas. Justo en el centro a pocos pasos de la entrada, una cámara cinematográfica antigua captura la atención de todo el que entra al lugar. Este detalle me hizo pensar en la historia del cine y su antigüedad.
La sala de proyección es amplia y cómoda con butacas confortables y un escenario espacioso. Durante la función no solo actuaron los niños de "La Colmenita", sino también varios miembros del público, incluidos algunos padres. Fue una experiencia muy bonita, llena de risas, canciones y bailes. Tanto los niños como los adultos disfrutaron al máximo compartiendo momentos de alegría y buena energía. Mi niña cantó, bailó y participó con los actores, quienes a cada momento bajaban del escenario para interactuar con el público. El entusiasmo se podía sentir en el ambiente.
Este fin de semana fue también una manera de probar que a pesar de los desafíos que se nos puedan presentar siempre vale la pena buscar oportunidades para disfrutar, aprender y conectar.
Realmente disfrute de tu relato sencillo y fluido. El verbo transparente describe los escenarios de tal manera que aparecen ante los ojos del lector fácilmente reconocibles.
