The role of music in schools: should it be allowed or not🎧🎶🎵

HELLO HIVE

There is a strong emotional connection to us that we can't explain piercing through every bone and spine this strong connection has no boundary people of different ages, cultures and civilizations are attached to the strings of music in one way or the other. There are times when we prefer to have it quiet around us but then there are always the right notes for that period, every period carrying its own notes that suit our hearing and our mode.

Music itself is creativity at the highest level and it could symbolize so many things depending on the concept and genre of music we are listening to

Just like there are different songs for different periods the environment that we find ourselves in most times dictates the kinds of songs that we listen to and it plays its own role in that environment.

In a system where music plays different roles in any particular environment I would love to keep the scope of this post to just our school environment, and I am going to use my educational journey so far as an example I grew up in a society where music plays a huge role in with diverse genres of music as a result of diverse cultures and traditions, but there is a huge scepticism to some kinds of music then than we have now, the afro pop kind of music was termed as toxic and unhealthy for consumption so only some people got access to those kinds of music.

But other kinds of music were used to attract pupils to school when we were young and it was only open to a certain age group, I mean it was only for the kids in kindergarten but then you see older kids sneaking out of their classroom to come to have peak listening to the music and watching the TV. Now that kind of music was effectively educational because it helped learners to understand things faster and made the learning environment more friendly but as we grew past the kindergarten class the whole thing completely changed and there was no more music and TV but all we had now was our book and a piece of black chalkboard to write and learners have to mature almost instantly picking up a different way of learning entirely.

From then on, no form of music was allowed around the School premises even in high school. These changes are probably due to the way we view things in our environments with the most common motion being the fact that learning through music or having music as part of our curriculum was a waste of time that the learners would use learning something serious meaning that music was termed not serious and a waste of time in an educational sense.

Learners were not allowed to listen to music from their kindergarten days through high school, I had an incident where I and my friends were caught singing during our class break and then followed some strict punishment and That's how hard music was pushed aside.

But once learners get to the university or college then they get back their freedom to listen to music in school as long as it doesn't disturb the school by this time many talented kids who the school could have helped groom even if the environment can't would probably have lost their musical touch.

Music is dominant. I grew up in an environment where every morning, you're awoken by songs vibrating from loud speakers on all corners. My schools were missionary and only let in the usual gospel, but that was during devotions. Otherwise, you would be punished if you sang. Things are evolving now. I see changes happening already.
