From Dirt Pile to Little Jungle How Our Backyard Spot in Grew Into a Colorful, Leafy Haven We Can’t Get Enough Of!

Oh hey come, let me tell you about our garden at home 😊 You know what at first that spot was just all dirt and old pots lying around like a pile of stuff we never used. Then dad suddenly decided we should turn it into a garden since the space was going to waste and we have not stopped planting since then!

Look, there’s this plant by the wall with huge heart shaped leaves they are this mix of red and purple! Dad just bought it last week from a shop in Buhangin. He said “there’s so much green here already we need some color so it does not look boring”.

The thick leaves around it have been there forever one of those kinds came from Tita Mylene next door she gave it to us when the baby was just born. Even the pot it’s in is from back when i was in high school you know how it is that old reddish pot with dirt stains all over it we can’t replace it now it’s like part of the family!

Then there’s another section that looks just like a carpet of plants! Their leaves have white edges they just started growing there out of nowhere probably a piece fell off when Tita Mylene was trimming her own garden. At first we tried moving them somewhere else but they just kept spreading, so we said “fine then you can have this whole area to yourself”.

Sometimes i even watch the ants walking around on the leaves it’s like they are just wandering around and enjoying how nice it looks. When it rains hard here the water droplets sit on the leaves like little pearls it’s so pretty watching them roll around before they drop to the ground!

I’ve got a favorite spot too the one with all different shades of green! Those puffy heart shaped leaves are pothos that i arranged myself. At first they were on the front porch but they weren’t doing well then i read that they like shady spots so i moved them here. And there’s this little plant with white lines on its leaves just last week it suddenly grew tiny white flowers! I was so happy because ireally thought it would never bloom here, especially with how hot and humid it gets in the afternoons. Even our old concrete wall looks good with the plants growing against it way better than if we painted it!

And of course we have our “special” plants there’s one with pink and purple leaves, we call it our “princess plant” because it needs extra care but it’s worth it when you see how it stands out. Next to it is a bromeliad my cousin brought from Cebu when she visited last year she said it loves the weather here in CDO and she was right! It’s already growing new little ones around its base. All of them are in clay pots we stacked on an old wooden shelf my brother made it was supposed to be for gardening tools but plants look way better there.

Every time i look at our garden i just can’t help smiling it started as nothing at all, and now it’s like we have our own little jungle right next to the house! 🏡😊
