Hello #Hive visual friends, welcome to a new edition of my street photography series. This time I'm debuting a new format which I wanted to call "Street Confessions". I'm still "giving shape" to this, my initial intention is to share street photos accompanied by a little story related or not to these and also take the opportunity to show the monochrome and color versions of these photos. But as I said, it's something new and it's still in the making, so here we go...

Hola amigos visuales de #Hive, sean bienvenidos a una nueva edición de mis series de fotografías callejeras. Esta vez estoy debutando bajo un nuevo formato el cual he querido llamar "Confesiones Callejeras". Aún estoy "dando forma" a esto, me tengo por intención inicial compartir fotos de calle acompañadas de alguna pequeña historia relacionada o no con estas y también aprovechar para mostrar las versiones monocromáticas y en color de estas fotos. Pero tal como dije, es algo nuevo y esta en plena formación, así que aquí vamos...

"Trying it every day"/_{"Intentándolo a diario"}

I watch in silence as young families try to get by on a daily basis.This is a town affected in every way. Now it is not so easy to have a stable job, it is also not easy to have and maintain a vehicle to go to work, the most fundamental services such as health, education, electricity and water are getting worse and worse... Everything is hard for these families of young people who are still "trying to live"...

Observo en silencio a las familias jóvenes intentando a diario salir adelante. Este es un pueblo afectado en todos los sentidos. Ahora no es tan fácil tener un trabajo estable, tampoco es fácil tener y mantener un vehículo para ir al trabajo, los servicios más fundamentales como salud, educación, electricidad y agua cada vez funcionan peor... Todo es duro para estas familias conformadas por jóvenes, las cuales siguen siempre "intentando vivir"...

"Cliché"/_"Cliché"

Years go by and I continue to see pairs of old shoes being thrown on the lighting wires... Who the fuck does this? I've seen it in other towns, I think I've seen it in movies too!... I still don't understand what this is done for... :(

Pasan los años y continúo observando pares de zapatos viejos lanzados a los cables del alumbrado... ¿Quien carajos hace esto? Lo he visto en otros pueblos ¡Creo que también lo he visto en películas!... Sigo sin entender para que se hace esto... :(

"As in Orwell's novels"/_{"Como en las novelas de Orwell"}

Luis goes out on the street to the "neighborhood community council" carrying a cylinder to get the gas he needs for cooking. Against all safety regulations he carries that cylinder on a rickety baby carriage (there is no fuel to move his old car). When he gets there, he will have to wait several hours under a "hot tropical sun" until they return the cylinder full of gas and "write it down in the control book"... I remember that in the 90's the gas companies would take the cylinders to our homes and their operators would remove the empty ones themselves and put the new ones in place, they would even "fight to attract new clients and make phone calls to notify them of their visit and delivery"... Everything changed at the end of the last century, when the "revolution" began to turn us into something that perhaps even Orwell himself could not have imagined...

Luis sale a la calle hacia el "concejo comunal del barrio" llevando un cilindro para surtirse del gas necesario para cocinar. Contra todas las normas de seguridad lleva ese cilindro sobre un destartalado coche para bebés (no hay combustible para mover su viejo auto). Al llegar allá tendrá que esperar varias horas bajo un"ardiente sol tropical" hasta que le retornen el cilindro lleno de gas y le "anoten en la libreta de control"... Recuerdo que en los años 90 las compañías de gas llevaban los cilindros a nuestras casas y sus operarios retiraban ellos mismos los vacíos y colocaban los nuevos, incluso se "peleaban por captar nuevos clientes y hacían llamadas telefónicas para avisar de su visita y entrega"... Todo cambió a finales del siglo pasado, cuando la "revolución" comenzó a convertirnos en algo lo cual quizás ni el mismo Orwell hubiese imaginado...

"Some just want to run away"/_{"Algunos solo quieren huir"}

Well, it seems that I woke up quite "critical" today, maybe the fact of having been 9 hours without electricity has something to do with that... I surely don't want to run away, but I observe the empty streets and I know that many have already left...

Bien, tal parece que amanecí bastante "crítico" hoy, quizás el hecho de haber estado 9 horas in electricidad tenga que ver con eso... Yo seguramente no deseo huir, pero observo las calles semi-vacías y sé que muchos se han ido ya...

And this is one of those cases where "a picture is worth a thousand words"... Don't you think?

Y este es uno de esos casos en donde "una imagen vale más que mil palabras".. ¿No les parece?

"Town in collapse"/_{"Pueblo en derrumbe"}

When I was a child and even during my teenage years, I hated to see how the old colonial houses were demolished by their owners to build "ugly new houses" in their place (I have always preferred the old houses, I'm a damned romantic, I know)... But now all this has changed!... Old houses are no longer torn down by their owners. Now they are abandoned and slowly fall down before the indifference of those who walk the streets.

Siendo yo un niño e inclusive durante mis años de adolescente, odiaba ver como las viejas casonas coloniales eran derribadas por sus dueños para construir "horrendas casas nueva" en su lugar (siempre he preferido las casa antiguas, soy un condenado romántico, lo sé)... ¡Pero ahora todo esto ha cambiado!... Ya las casa viejas no son derrumbadas por sus dueños. Ahora quedan abandonas y van cayendo lentamente ante la indiferencia de quienes caminan por las calles.

"Now you can leave it alone"/_{"Ahora puedes dejarla sola"}

Finally something good!... Now we can leave our bikes parked anywhere without fear of someone taking them!... Years ago, when the town had more than 36,000 inhabitants, thefts of bicycles and motorcycles were common... But now that doesn't happen anymore... Even the thieves have fled the town! :)

¡Finalmente algo bueno!.... ¡Ahora podemos dejar las bicicletas estacionadas en cualquier lugar sin temor a que alguien se las lleve!... Años atrás, cuando el pueblo tenía más de 36.000 habitantes, los hurtos de bicicletas y motos eran algo común... Pero ahora ya eso no sucede... ¡Incluso los ladrones han huido del pueblo! :)

"Always something to smile"/_{"Siempre algo para sonreír"}

Well, I accept that while I'm creating this post my bad mood is slowly dissipating. So I have decided to include this photo which cheers my soul....

Bueno, acepto que mientras estoy creando esta publicación mi mal humor se ido disipando lentamente. Así que he decidido incluir esta foto la cual me alegra el alma...

"Intrusive photographer on the neighborhood sidewalk"/_{"Fotógrafo intruso en la vereda del barrio"}

In some neighborhoods on the margins of town where the houses are humble and crammed side by side in very narrow spaces... And I'm a crazy guy enough to sneak into the backstreets and suddenly appear shooting photos!... It's obvious that some people run to hide then! :)

Aquí hay vecindarios en las margenes del pueblo en donde las casas son humildes y están amontonadas una al lado de la otra en espacios muy estrechos... ¡Y yo soy un tipo lo suficientemente loco como para meterme por las callejuelas y aparecer repentinamente disparando fotos!... ¡Es obvio que algunas personas corran a ocultarse entones! :)

"Good news has four legs"/_{"Las buenas noticias, tienen cuatro patas"}

My father used to say: "In this town there are more dogs than people on the streets"... That's more true now than before I guess... And that's good news!

Mi padre solía decirlo: "En este pueblo hay más perros que personas en las calles"... Eso ahora es más cierto que antes supongo... ¡Y eso es una buena noticia!.

_{ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.}

_{NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad...
