"EL Asentamiento" (The Settlement) is the property of a good old friend, a former high school classmate and "compadre" named Gerardo, who, by the way, is always annoyed by my habit of showing up unannounced on his land. He always wants to have a delicious hot coffee and even a country breakfast ready for me to share... This time, my visit was no exception, and I entered the property to find my friend on his tractor plowing the land for planting... When he saw me in the distance, my "Compadre Gerardo" got off the tractor and began grumbling loudly, saying things like: "You never lose that habit of showing up here unannounced. If I had known, I could have been waiting for you with food and hot coffee" 😂... He's a good-natured man, but with a rough temper, like almost everyone who lives in these parts; He also hates being photographed up close, so you won't see any portraits of him in this post, only photos where he appears from afar riding his tractor 😂...

"El Asentamiento" es la propiedad de un buen amigo de siempre, antiguo compañero de secundaria y "compadre" llamado Gerardo, a quien por cierto siempre le saca de quicio mi costumbre de venir a visitarle en sus tierras sin haber avisado antes para tenerme un buen café caliente e incluso un desayuno campestre listo para compartirlo juntos... Esta vez, mi visita no fue la excepción de la regla y entré al lugar para encontrar a mi amigo montado sobre su tractor arando la tierra para sembrar... Al verme a lo lejos mi "Compadre Gerardo" se bajó del tractor y comenzó a refunfuñar en voz alta cosas como: "Nunca puedes esa costumbre de aparecer aquí sin avisar antes para esperarte con comida y café caliente" 😂... Es un hombre bonachón pero de carácter rudo como casi todas las personas que viven en estas tierras; también odia ser fotografiado de cerca, así que no verán en este post ningún retrato de él, solo fotos en donde aparece de lejos montado en su tractor 😂...

The place is called this because in the mid-20th century it was made up of plots of land belonging to several owners, and everyone called it "The Peasant Settlement." But over the years, my friend's father bought almost all of the land and consolidated it into a single property, and that name stuck... My friend inherited this land from his parents and bought out his siblings' shares, so the place now belongs to him and is his source of work and income... From here you can appreciate beautiful landscapes of the valley and the mountains to the north and west, and sunny mornings with clear skies like this one are ideal for taking photographs.

El lugar lleva ese nombre debido a que a mediados del siglo XX estaba conformado por parcelas pertenecientes a varios dueños y todos le llamaban "El Asentamiento Campesino", pero con el paso de los años, el padre de mi amigo compró la casi totalidad de los terrenos del lugar y los unificó en una sola propiedad y ese nombre permaneció... Mi amigo heredó estas tierras de sus padres y compró las partes correspondientes a sus hermanos, así que el lugar hoy por hoy le pertenece y es su fuente de trabajo e ingresos... Desde aquí se pueden apreciar paisajes hermosos del valle y las montañas al norte y al oeste, y mañanas soleadas y de cielos despejados como esta, son ideales para hacer fotografías aquí...

Within the property is also a fairly large building whose function decades ago was to serve as a kiln for drying tobacco leaves, but this crop declined in this region, and so these buildings ended up being used to house machinery and tools, and even occasionally to shelter cows and pigs. The atmosphere here is very rural, and to be honest, everything here is rustic and functional without being particularly beautiful or elegant. But being here, at least for me, is pleasant, since I love these kinds of simple, unpretentious rural settings... Besides, this is a place I've known since childhood, because my friend's father and my father were also friends, so my "Compadre Gerardo" and I have known each other for more than half a century.

Dentro de la propiedad también está un edificio bastante grande cuya función décadas atrás era la de servir como horno para secar las hojas del tabaco, pero este rubro de cultivo fue perdiendo auge en esta región y así estos edificios terminaron siendo destinados para resguardar las maquinarias y herramienta e incluso para ocasionalmente dar cobijo a vacas y cerdos... El ambiente aquí es muy rural y para ser sinceros, todo aquí es rustico y funcional sin llegar a ser demasiado bonito o elegante. Pero estar aquí, para mi cuando menos, es placentero, ya que amo este tipo de entornos rurales simples y sin lujos... Además, este es un lugar el cual conozco desde mi niñez, pues el padre de mi amigo y m padre eran también amigos, así que mi "Compadre Gerardo" y yo nos conocemos desde hace más de medio siglo...

As I mentioned in my recent posts, I've been visiting these places in the Agua de Obispo Valley more often than usual for work, which I'll tell you about later. So, amidst all this new activity, I'll be taking the opportunity to visit more places like this and share my photos and stories here on #Hive with you...

Como ya dije en mis publicaciones recientes, estoy viniendo con mayore frecuencia de la acostumbrada a estos lugares del valle de "Agua de Obispo" por asuntos de trabajo acerca de los cuales después les contaré. Así que en medio de toda esta nueva faceta de actividades, estaré aprovechando de visitar más lugares como este y compartir mis fotos e historias aquí en #Hive con ustedes...
