Taking photographs along the narrow paved road that winds through the rural valleys south of town is always a photographic pleasure for me. I can't remember ever making this trip without thinking at least once, "Wow, that would make a great photo!" This is especially true in the mornings when you look east, either at sunrise or—as on this occasion—when the sun is high on the horizon, creating beautiful backlighting, although somewhat difficult to manage with the camera...

Ir a hacer fotografías a lo largo de la angosta carretera pavimentada que recorre los valles rurales al sur del pueblo, es algo siempre fotográficamente placentero para mi. No recuerdo haber hecho este recorrido y no haber pensado cuando menos una vez cosas como "caray, valla una linda foto ahí allí", y esto especialmente cierto cuando se está allí en las mañanas y se dirige la vista hacia el este, ya sea al momento de la salida del sol, o incluso -como en esta oportunidad- cuando ya está alto en el horizonte y genera contraluces hermosos, aunque difíciles de gestionar con la cámara...

And it's not just landscapes to photograph there; other interesting things often happen to me, like the appearance of a friend named Miguel, who walks along the road pushing an old wheelbarrow and carrying an axe, looking for firewood to chop and take home. Along with Miguel, a cute little light-colored dog appears; she belongs to a nearby farm. She always watches me from afar and starts to approach. She already knows me and knows that I like to rub her belly and say sweet things to her. So, she always comes closer and lies on her back so I can pet her. She's a charming animal and has an excellent sense of smell, since she always appears when I'm walking along that road, so I assume she can easily detect my scent...

Y no solamente hay paisajes para fotografiar allí; también suelen ocurrirme otras cosas interesantes, como por ejemplo, la aparición de un amigo llamado Miguel, quien va por la carretera llevando una vieja carretilla y un hacha, en busca de leña para cortar y llevar a casa. Y junto con Miguel, también aparece una linda perrita de color claro, la cual pertenece a una granja delos alrededores. Ella siempre me observa a lo lejos y comienza a acercarse, ya me conoce, y sabe que me gusta acariciarle su barriguita y decirle cosas tiernas. Entonces, siempre se acerca y se tiende bocarriba para que yo la acaricie. Es un animal encantador y tiene excelente olfato, pues siempre aparece cuando voy caminando por esa carretera, así que presumo que percibe mi olor fácilmente...

But the most fantastic thing to observe here is almost always the horizon. Because that combination of light, distant fog, fences, pastures, the occasional forest, and even some farm buildings and corrals, is a delight to capture in photographs. Compositions with such a multitude of elements venturing into the same plane, in addition to the light, are often challenging to create, but at the same time very rewarding when the desired eloquence is achieved...

Pero lo más fantástico de observar aquí, casi siempre es el horizonte. Porque esa combinación de luces, niebla a lo lejos, alambradas, pastizales, algún bosque, e incluso algunas estructuras de granjas y corrales, es algo delicioso para dedicarse a construir imágenes. Las composiciones con semejante cantidad de elementos incursionando en un mismo plano, además de las luces, suelen ser desafiantes de hacer, pero al mismo tiempo muy gratificantes cuando se logra la elocuencia deseada...

Even a couple of young buffalo wandering along the road proved to be interesting company for a short stretch of my hike. So I can say that it was an excellent morning doing what I love so much...

Incluso un par de búfalos juveniles deambulando por la carretera, resultaron una interesante compañía durante un corto tramo de mi caminata. Así que puedo decir que esa fue una mañana excelente para hacer esto que tanto me gusta...
