I do this because sometimes I behave like a child (a sickly, bald, and slightly overweight one, I suppose)... I mean, I wake up, go out into my yard, and look around at everything shrouded in the morning mist, and then make a decision which in my head sounds something like this: "I'll climb the hills right up to the point where the mist ends, stay there, take pictures, think about God knows what, and then go back to the village"... And yes, this is easy for me to do, because from my house to a point high enough to rise above the mist, I only have to walk two or three kilometers, and not all of it is uphill... So this is a bit like a game for me, a delightful one, and one I've been playing since I was "really" a child, and that was almost half a century ago...

Hago esto porque a veces me comporto como un niño (uno con achaques, calvo y con algo de sobrepeso, supongo). Me refiero a despertarme, salir a mi patio y mirar todo a mi alrededor envuelto en la niebla de la mañana y entonces tomar una decisión la cual en mi cabeza suena más o menos así: "Escalaré las colinas justo hasta el punto en donde termina la niebla, permaneceré allí, haré fotos, pensaré en sabe Dios que cosas y entonces volveré al pueblo... Y sí, esto es fácil de hacer para mi, pues desde mi casa hasta un punto lo bastante alto para superar la altura de la niebla, me basta con recorrer entre dos y tres kilómetros apenas, y no todos son de ascenso... Entonces esto es un poco como un juego para mi, uno encantador por cierto, y cual acostumbraba a hacer desde que "en realidad" era un niño, y eso fue hace casi medio siglo atrás...

Looking at the landscape along this road that climbs the hills is undeniably fascinating. Noticing how it seems like one world when it's foggy and another entirely different world when it's clear is something that has always captivated me. And standing right at that threshold where the fog recedes and the blue of the clear sky begins to appear is something that has always delighted my imagination...

Mirar el paisaje lo largo de este camino que asciende por las colinas, es a todas luces algo fascinante de hacer. También percatarse de que esto parece un mundo cundo tiene niebla y otro mundo distinto cuando está despejado, es también algo que me fascina desde siempre. Y permanecer justo en ese umbral en donde la niebla queda detrás y se comienza a observar el azul del cielo despejado; es algo que siempre ha hecho las delicias de mi imaginación...

I come here for a thousand reasons, whether it's to exercise, breathe fresh air, take photos, meditate, remember my childhood and youth (this place brings back thousands of memories from those times in my life)... Here I can be a guy trying to take care of his health, or a dreamer imagining stories, writing poems in his mind, talking to imaginary beings, remembering my teenage girlfriends, my friends who are no longer here, my pets who have gone to dog and cat heaven, the years I spent with my late father, and much more... This place is for me a kind of breviary, an archive, a library in which I can easily read and write myself...

Vengo a aquí por mil cosas, ya sea para ejercitarme, respirar aire puro, hacer fotos, meditar, recordar mi infancia y mi juventud (este lugar me trae miles de recuerdos de esas épocas de mi vida)... Aquí puedo ser un tipo intentando cuidar su salud, o un soñador imaginando historias, escribiendo poemas en su mente, hablando con seres imaginarios, recordando mis novias de adolescencia, mis amigos que ya no están, mis mascotas que se fueron al cielo de los perros y los gatos, los años vividos junto a mi padre fallecido y mucho más... Este lugar es para mi una especie de breviario, un archivo, una biblioteca en la cual me leo y me rescribo con facilidad...

And obviously, for almost a quarter of a century now, I've also come to this place to take photos. And I do this not only for the photographs themselves. I do it also because, for me, taking photographs is something that goes hand in hand with my thoughts. I photograph things not exactly as they appear, but also "as I understand them," and that includes scenes as generic as a landscape from a hill or a foggy road. I try to capture all of this with my instinct, with my way of feeling it reflected in the image. And I suppose that's why I can always write these few lines to accompany my photos. Something which I certainly love to do...

Y obviamente, desde haca ya casi un cuarto de siglo, vengo a este lugar también a hacer fotos. Y hago esto no solo por las fotografías en sí mismas. Lo hago también porque para mi el hecho de hacer fotografía es algo que va de la mano con mis pensamientos. Yo haga las fotos de las cosas no como se ven exactamente, sino también "como yo las entiendo", y eso incluye escenas tan genéricas como el paisaje desde una colina o un camino con niebla. Y es que yo procuro retratar todo esto con mi instinto, con mi manera de sentirlo plasmada en la imagen. Y supongo que es por eso que puedo escribir siempre este puñado de líneas acompañando mis fotos. Algo lo cual, ciertamente amo hacer...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
