Hello! ✨

I hope everyone is well. 😁 For Week 372, I chose the crad Ancient Lich.

"At the side of Kiro’s deathbed, Vikor performed an ancient forbidden ritual of magic. The old greedy king was granted a twisted form of eternal life. He died as normal and his body was set to be cremated on a jungle pyre. Kiro’s flesh burned away, but while the bones remained intact, his body leapt to life and out of the flames. Because of the spells born of dark sorcery and the old king’s greed, he could not die. Kiro felt powerful and immortal, knowing that he could protect his treasures for the rest of time and continue to rule.

Thousands of years later as he wanders the wastelands of Mortis with nothing but his magic, his old bones shudder to think how wrong he was back then."

  • sketch and lineart

Before jumping to making a fan art for this card, I had the time to read its lore. Apparently, this king was so greedy that he did not want to cross to the afterlife. He wanted all the treasures in the world, and so, a dark magic was cast on him to prevent him from dying. His flesh was turned to ashes, but his bones.

I wanted to turn this card into my anime art style. I looked for a portrait pose on Pinterest that is easy to copy. I used blue colored pen for the sketch. I drew the details such as the crown and clothing. I imagine the crown was a nicely decorated piece of crystals and diamonds, and then it became fossilized. I used a soft edged pen for the lineart. I did not use ruler for the crown but just used free hand so that it looked like organic. Same with the bandages on the hand.

  • base color and shading

For the base color, I wanted it to be as close as the card, and so, I used a color pick tool on the inventory. On different layers, I separated the colors so that it would be easier for me to the shading later. On every layer of the base color, there is a clipped layer for the multiply mode layer. I used cell shading brush and airbrush for the soft shading.

  • polishing

I wanted the contrast to pop more so I tried duplicating the clipped layers on the base. I try to make it looked like as if the source of the is on the left side so naturally, it will be more darker on the right side. I then fill in the reflectiions on the crown, hair, and in to the eyes. I then used a glow brush for the purple glow on the hand and then added more glows on reflected subjects such as the clothing face and crown. Once I am happy with the main subject, I started building the background. I just copied the "souls" in the original card as the background. I think these were the souls escaping from Ancient Lich, hehe.
